I did not have a problem vaccinating Mine when they were little and it was time. I did not do it because the state mandated it (I actually homeschooled for four years). I did it because I checked the facts and determined that the minimal risk was far outweighed by the healthy benefits. They are fine and all grown up now. I gew up when there were very few vaccinations available. I had every childhood disease, one on top of the other, and almost failed first grade because I was hardly ever there. So I had some personal experience that influenced My decision to vaccinate. However, as a young parent, I had a couple of friends who did not vaccinate, as they had a different view. I suspect that most of the lack of vaccinations is due to laziness and scheduling problems. If parents are not pushed, they are not going to get around to it. But, most probably, the largest percentage of these unvaccinated students would be vaccinated pronto if the parents had to figure out daycare while they couldn't be in school. For the few who have true objection to being forced to vaccinate, I say, respect that and their's just don't get to attend school. Our public school system is just that. Public, for the benefit of all and supported by taxes. The state can make the rules. That's the cost of relying on the public school system. Ya can't have it both ways. What they should not do is force the parents into a court and then fine and /or jail them for not complying. The consequence should be removal from the school system. Put the burden on the parents, where it belongs, instead of stepping in and taking over. Fines and jail? Wake up, please! *Sigh*
