We're very far apart on that but we could open some negotiations, and by this time next year I'm sure we could come to some sort of an agreement!

People in AA and NA celebrate quit date birthdays, and so there is that birthday as well as their "belly button" birthday.

Sorry we missed acknowledging you reaching the 'GO' square of your journey around the sun yesterday. Belated best wishing for many more circuits. May all your 'Chances' be a 'Bank error in your favor'; and you always have a 'Get out of jail free' card in your pocket.

Each day we are all "one day closer", you can't do anything about it. Ideally you forget about you age and instead enjoy what each day brings. Reasoning through our mortality is the penalty for having the ability to reason. The inevitability of the ending should only be considered as an incentive to not waste a moment.

Thank you, Mr. & Mrs. Merc, for the good words.

It's funny what a persons mind will wander through and over and under and around sometimes, and the finality of death is something that I think most people find themselves staring at, at least on occasion. It's good to contemplate things, even everything, otherwise what's the use of having lived.

Sometimes I think that living forever would be horrible, because life would run out of excitement. Out of things that are new... and in that light, in some ways, in an odd way, seeing one's oncoming (eventual) death is a sort of a climax to one's life, isn't it. It's a part of the dance, the ending. It's the necessary yang, completely natural.

I don't fear it, and I don't look forward to it, but I am curious about it. What if it isn't the end... you cannot destroy matter or energy after all, so everything that makes us up goes on forever, only in a different changed state. And electrons make up a significant part of our being, it's all very complicated and worth thinking about.

But I digress.... thank you Merc, and also thank you too, fairerthanshe.

Its my birthday again today, I'm 47 now.

I never drink and I never use drugs any more, but I sure am high tonight. Its really good high, too. Two years ago when I wrote the OP to this thread I was feeling black, but I've been climbing up out of that ever since and I owe some of that to inspiration that I have found right here from some of you, and so I want to thank all of you you for that, the good, the bad, and the ugly too.

I quit smoking several years back, and started exercising. I try to watch what I eat... and its all paying off too. I'm confident that I can out run or out climb or out fight most men half my age right now. Things are coming together for me, I am maturing, and I'm getting things sorted out. Life is hard, don't get me wrong, but its good for me right now. I had a birthday kiss from someone very special today, a first time kiss, to follow with my kind of date, our kind of date...

this coming weekend.

I'm getting all kinds of positive feedback like that from most every direction, and it is nice...

I am finding some direction, and finally really moving on past some of the bad times I've experienced in my life that were unbelievably ugly. I can't believe I've made it this far, looking back at the way I once lived. But today I am glad I did make it this far, I sucked it up or caught that miracle when it was do or die and I pulled through.

Yeah, things are better for me today, and I am really looking forward now. Happy Birthday to me!
