Hooray, I'm 45 today. Another year closer to death... whoopee.

I'll eat the mandatory ice cream and cake, then go about my normal daily routine, only with a little bit of the added sadness caused by the growing feeling that this cruel world is spinning faster and faster with each passing moment. Soon I will be gone. Have you ever felt that way, that as you age time itself speeds up...

My hair becomes ever grayer, and I look slightly more like the crypt keeper with every passing moment. The endless black void  races up to swallow me, stalking me and mocking me with its fast growing presence.

Born only to die, how interesting. I raise an eyebrow. What is the use of it all. Sure, I've successfully passed my genes on so that there's a part of me that may continue on for as long as the planet does, but after a time... everything shall die.

If there is a higher meaning, then I can see that there could be some use for this existence, but if there is no spirituality - what is there to keep me from committing extreme evil for selfish reasons. Why live out my life in mediocraty... why. I call out and there is no answer... only the wind.

Who doesn't have a dark side that looks at these things? Indeed, happy birthday to me.

(You've purchased a quality walker now haven't you?)

That post was two years ago. Here's this year's post:

And no, I don't have my walker yet but I know that if I can lure someone in close enough I can WHACK 'em with my cane.

Chocolate bar?

I start every day saying to myself "another day closer!" A pragmatic way to view life.

Hope you have a FANTASTIC birthday my friend!

Sanity,

All the best on your birthday!

My wish for you is that you make some superb memories this weekend.
And that you savor them and add to them for at least 47 more.

Thank you Merc, you've been a hell of an influence on my thinking here. You, Firm, and a few others in particular. I don't always agree but I enjoy reading and thinking about what you write and I appreciate the time you take here and the contributions that you've made through the years.

And while I love your pragmatism, I often have to mix my own particular brand of pragmatism with a good healthy shot of Rock and Roll.

Happy Birthday Old Man! [sm=birthday.gif]

Have a wonderful day.[sm=banana.gif]

Just go and get that Peanuts shirt back on, it takes years off. [:D]

cpK69 -> RE: Happy Birthday To Me (11/19/2009 8:17:13 PM)

At the ripe old age of sixteen, I was certain I wouldn’t live to see eighteen… Surprise!!! I turned forty this year.

I’ve wonder about ‘purpose’ for many years now, it hasn’t always been easy to see, and even seeing isn’t making believing much easier.

Seek and ye shall find.

Happy Belated Birthday!

Kim (who enjoys viewing Earth from about 700 mi up, where it is much easier to see; the end is the beginning.)

If I could get Lucy to hold that football for me just one more time I'm sure I could kick it to the MOON. .

Louve00 -> RE: Happy Birthday To Me (11/20/2009 5:00:01 AM)

LOL.  Now ya see.  I never noticed the date of the thread.  When you posted again, saying you were now 47 and drunk I thought it was the booze talking and got a little snicker over it.

Ok....so you're 47 this year
       and I'm Polish lol

Happy Birthday, (again)!!!!

Sanity -> RE: Happy Birthday To Me (11/20/2009 5:07:14 AM)

No, I didn't say I was drunk... just the opposite. Sorry for the confusion, its my fault. I didn't realize that people would think the thread was brand new, which apparently a lot of people do.
