They're not going to make you a moderator no matter how any times you do this. Give it a rest.

Pmsl if I wanted to be a mod here then id re-join and be picture perfect posts.

Im a member of alot of forums and this is under-moderated. Flames are done alot and the fact of small mods then they cant keep up.

As I said in the other post it will be hard to find some good fair people but would be worth it.

Maybe even source else where.

One of the things I've always like about CM is that the forums are moderated better than at sites like bondage.com. As the number of users and the amount of traffic increases, it stands to reason that more moderators are needed.

Flames and flamers need fuel, and that fuel is the reaction of the people being flamed and those who react to the flaming. Take away the re-inforcement that responding to flames gives, and the flame dies for lack of fuel and/or lack of support.

It is very hard to ignore some flames when they are directed at ourselves. If we are Dominants, I think that ignoring flames is part of Dominant Self Control. If we are submissives, then I think ignoring flames places the flames in their proper perspective. In either event, a flame does not deserve any feeding from anyone.

Questions against the TOS by right need to be sent to a feedback forum of some kind. No matter how many moderators there are, none of us can act to interpret TOS. If TOS questions are properly directed, then the existing moderators can handle them.

If it gets to big for the mods to handle, I trust them enough to recognize the problem, and expand their number accordingly. If for some reason that changes, I need to take that concern to the moderators, not to the general membership.

That's my two cents worth on the topic. Your mileage may vary, and that's ok.

I think the "eating cake" thread is a good example of why the site could use more moderators.

Edited to add: It's all well and good to say that we should ignore the flamers, and have thick skin, but when all the flaming pushes people away from the forums--and people have told me that the recent flaming has kept them away--then something is wrong.

I'm actually fairly impressed with the mods for not having shut that one down yet. (Although, it's possible that they are just otherwise occupied and haven't gotten to it yet... but I think they may be waiting to see if we will "self-moderate" and solve the problem ourselves by not adding any further fuel to the fire.)

As insulting as that thread has become, there is still an intelligent conversation taking place...once you sift through the name calling and other nonsense. Having more mods is not the solution in my opinion, as some had a tendency to over-moderate and kill a thread because of a simple, civil disagreement. I have no issues in blocking a user or just letting go of a topic. (okay...I DO have issues letting go, especially regarding politics... but I still do it from time to time.)

I agree that over-moderating can be a problem too. But I haven't seen too much of that here.

When you ask this question, it reminds me of a politician asking the people if we need more laws and police - I say definitely not!

The moderators on this site already do an excellent job. Plus, I've always been one that thinks a little anarchy once in a while is good for the soul.

That never happens. People will aways say something unless its blocked or told not too.

Its all good we can block them but what about new people. They would click on threads and see flames against people. Why would they stay?

And micromanagement, if that could happen then there would be no need for mods.

I agree with LAM here. It's very annoying when you take the time to write something halfway interesting and someone comes a long and nitpicks it apart without any regard for the gist of post or intention behind it. There are a lot of individuals here that seem to be more about the debate than the discussion. The one that gets my goat never has an original question or post, just jumps on the replies and starts waving their IQ around. However, that doesn't push me away from the forums. I ignore the threads that turn into kindling and the people that seem to have that streak in them. I don't think the mods should have to babysit this thing 24/7. After all, worst case scenario, one might be discouraged from posting momentarily but if they turn tail and run they won't find any safer haven for this sort of discussion.

Anyone of the caliber of ModOne would add value to the site.

I does happen, because it has happened in the past. I recall a lot of posts by certain shit-stirrers that were designed for the sole purpose of starting flames. Some posts were closed by moderators, but that didn't solve the problem. What seemed to solve the problem was that people stopped responding to that person's posts. He/she/it finally drifted off to somewhere else to play their games.

Why will new people stay? Because they realize that there is still a lot of good information here and that they do not have to respond to the flamers.

As for your reference to micromanagement... Huh?

As seen in some threads, it would be wonderful if people could just state their opinion, without attacking the poster for thiers. <g> I don't mind reading heated discussions, or even those that resort to name calling. I feel those that flame are just showing their true self to folks, and if you think about, this is a good thing. Doesn't make them look very attractive, does it?

One of the reasons I voted for "more" moderators, is that lately I've seen quite a few posts held for approvals. With the huge volume of posts I've seen (only started enjoying the Message Boards recently), and the number of posts waiting for approval, I just see this as being indicative of the current moderators having a lot of work to do.

If they feel they (the current moderators) need help...then more modetators may be the answer. IMO, having more moderators won't stop the flames.

K
