To me its just a lot of fuss, stress and expense I'm afraid - the only good part is the half hour or so of seeing the UMs opening their presents. It all starts about now - 300 Christmas cards for clients and suppliers to be written and posted. Then a week before Christmas the running all over the UK in freezing or wet or foggy conditions to deliver gifts to our top clients. 1000 miles+ that has to be done in a few days, watching the clock and the traffic jams, often lost, never time to eat or stop for the loo. Real festive fun, that is. Then there's buying gifts and wrapping them for friends and family. When you have five siblings plus wives plus kids, plus two lots of grandparents, plus cousins and you have to buy gifts for your kids to give to their friends and to the family too, this is a major pain in the arse. And on the day I have to feign interest as I unwrap gifts to me and wonder what I'll do with this year's haul of toiletries, since the shelves in the bathroom are already heaving from previous years. I really wish people would just give the money to charity - that would be much more appreciated. Then I have to watch everyone drink and stuff themselves stupid - neither of which are my idea of a fun time, before going to sleep for the afternoon. All the while I'm thinking about what I could be doing. Then the evening comes and I get the UMs, who have been with my ex and her lot all day. So this year I intend to spend it with my family - Tessy cat and Pepper cat, aside from watching the UMs opening their presents. Cook and eat a curry, and maybe spend some time doing stuff that I enjoy. Bah humbug E
