Yet another cat person

i've been a bit phobic of dogs ever since i was a little kid, and most of them are just too LOUD. My cats and i understand each other.

I don't think I could choose one type over another. I grew up with both (at one time we had over 30 cats haha my poor mother!).Currently I have one of each and both bring me something special. Barney Cat is almost 20, she bites & throws up hairballs. She won't eat anything but rotisserie chicken and pot plants hah. Yet she is curled up on my leg right now purring. She loves to curl up in my hair and drool. Ew but sweet lol. Despite the rumor of cats being easy to care for she is extremely high maintenance.Mickey the Wonderdog (her pic is in my profile) is 12 and totally awesome even though she is a complete neurotic chicken. Her favorite thing in the world is to run through the woods with the deer, yes with them. Not after them but with them, they play. When I was bedridden for 24 months she rarely left my side, she would lay with me pressed against my side keeping her warm brown eyes on me to make sure I was okay.

i have always considered myself to be a cat person, with a couple of notable exceptions, one of whom is still asleep under the covers in my bed--it's cold & rainy here & what would be the point of getting up until that stops? his name is Spike, the Amazing Wonder Dog & he's chihuahua & jack russell...he was feral in New Orleans & after the hurricane, he was captured during the pet rescues...when i adopted him, he had no knowledge of what it was like to live inside with humans...he was terrified & knew no commands, nor how to play or what a toy was...he still doesn't quite believe that balls are for fun...i had never trained a dog & he had never had a human, so we learned & taught each other...

i have been very fortunate to have been able to spend 24/7 with him, as i drive a big truck all over the country & he is my co-driver...he is an absolute delight & the best companion...this April, i took him into the vet for his shots & to check out why he occasionally coughed...i was told that he was terminal & that to treat him would probably kill him...they gave me meds for him which i dutifully gave him...he got worse very rapidly, so one day i just stopped the meds & he's back to his old self...the vet told me that he may have 6 months left, but here we are into the 7th month & coming up on the 8th & he's still his happy silly self, although he does cough sometimes without exertion, which reminds me of his health status...

i have learned from him that just cause you're sick or in pain, it doesn't have to ruin your day...there are still animals to track, fields to run in, stuffed doggies to squeek & mom to make laugh...when i take him out into the rain, i put him into the truck first, then i climb in...he runs to the bunk & i yell at him to stay down...he jumps up & down on & off the bunk, laughing at this new game...then he rolls his wet body all over the comforter while i attempt to not laugh with him...it never works.......

I have both a cat and a dog, I have to say my dog is genuinely excited to see me she loves on me and always wants to be with me, my cat however thinks I am only here to feed her and am useless if I am not scratching behind her ears..... I love them both though...

I like them both and receive different gifts from each.
A dog will please you because he genuinely wants to while a cat does it because it is either threatened or wanting something (like food).
I can snap My fingers at My cat and she knows to hightail it back into "our" rooms. She doesn't have the run of the house for allergy reasons.
A dog poops on top of the ground and has to be picked up after while a cat buries theirs.
But you can't beat a canine for affection and loyalty.

Had dogs since I was a tiny ...golden labs, loved them both ..then we had cats when huby and I got together, he wasnt a dog person, plus living conditions didnt allow it, then we adopted a shepard/husky and he changed his mind, now we have boo, a lab/collie and we are all totally in love with her, she is the biggest softy and tries to be a lap dog even tho she is a bit large for that. I love it when Im reading before sleeping and she is laying up close with her head on my shoulder. She also talks for treats, when she wants to go out etc.... she is my babygirl..

Cats are graceful, bonny animals. My sister has a 3 legged domesticated desert cat in Dubai. She loves them, and, truth be told, the two of them get on like a house on fire, but although it's a bonny enough thing, I just can't see eye to eye with it.

In a nutshell, I see warmth in dogs and icy-cold in cats.

For those who enjoy dog behaviors, but also enjoy a feline presence you might be interested in a Bengal. They're absolutely beautiful... and they'll walk on a leash, play fetch, sit on command and shake hands. They also tend to follow their person around the house, much like a dog tends to. They're quite keen on running water and bathtubs half-filled for playing in.

They do tend to have dominant personalities in that they demand attention. Often. It's probably a good idea to pair them up with another high-energy, playful cat. However, they are not commonplace and you'd likely have to go to a breeder to pick one up.

That said... While I enjoy the company of both cats and dogs I'm more inclined to love and live with cats. I've lived with them all my life so they're most natural to me.

i love kitties. wolf is allergic to kitties, and he already suffers at the g/f's house, so we dont have kitties.

wolf loves dogs. we had two large dogs....and when we moved from the house to the apartment, i said NO. i would have to be the one who had to walk them, and i can barely walk down the hall any longer. they dragged me.

so no pets.

I have had a dog, from a pup until it died, a Border Collie, fantastic creature, a wonderful companion in that it just was there wherever I was, a guard dog against other dogs,(ever seen a collie curl it's lip?), and what it saw as threatening humans, hey dog has a sense for these things, so I let it be.And of course a wonderful friend who never judged and was always there for me.

I took that dog everywhere, mountaineering, hillwalking, camping, sailing and I even assisted it when it would not stay put as I was investigating a pot hole, dog came too, of it's own accord.It even came to work with me, as I worked as a site engineer.I never bothered to lock the car doors, as there was a curling lipped collie inside.Windows left open, the collie stayed put, sitting in the driver's seat, guarding.

I do like dogs, but my circumstances prevent me getting another at the present, so I put up with the neighbour's cats who obviously come here for a bit of R+R, and I do not mollycoddle them, they get fed and allowed to sleep, if they come to me after the food, then fine, but I won't maul them about.

I have 5 Manx cats just now ... but I also Love Dogs!!
But ( in my opinion ) dogs tend to be much more "needy" as opposed to cats being more self sufficient and independent.
At present I travel too much to have dogs.
It's easy to get someone to look in on the cats .. make sure they're ok .. it's not easy to get someone to pet sit dogs ... and I worry about leaving a dog in a kennel .. maybe it's all in my head ... but I always worry that they must feel as though they've been abandoned.

I have a dog. There have been times when the house has been filled with canine wuffles and wagging tails

hi
have always been more a cat person but dont have one at the moment. my ex took mine on when i moved in with C. He already had a 14year old black lab who has personality plus. As we live on a boat it seemed unfair on both animals to make them cohabit such a small place. Sam, the dog, loves it, he is our self exercising fishing dog. He runs up and down the pier chasing seagulls and waves, one day i swear he will catch one too

So for now we are enjoying Sam, though not sure how much longer we will have him with us. When the day comes and he is gone (hopefully a wee way away yet!) we may get a cat as we both love having animals. Another dog is unlikely, Sam copes with the boat because he is an old dog, not sure how a puppy would cope.

i am totally a cat person. they are so independant but loving, (for the most part). i once had a cat that wouldeat my cousins pot and then go up the street to the crack heads house. poor thing had to detox at a vets for a week once. we even got him fixed, but damn if i know how or why, but his balls grew back!! but sheeesh, that was about 20 years ago.
i still have cats. 3 of them

I grew up with both. I prefer dogs. I currently have a 45 pound terrier mix who's almost 10. He thinks he's still a puppy though.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I've never heard of a cat or any animal needing detox! That just made my day! Thanks. Perhaps his balls were magic balls that would always grow back no matter how many times they were removed. Or he knew in his heart it was his purpose to procreate no matter what the stupid humans said. Just my idea.
