an internal CIA memorandum has been obtained by Venezuelan counterintelligence from the US Embassy in Caracas that reveals a very sinister - almost fantastical, were it not true - plan to destabilize Venezuela during the coming days. The plan, titled "OPERATION PLIERS" was authored by CIA Officer Michael Middleton Steere and was addressed to CIA Director General Michael Hayden in Washington.

Isn't it a felony and treason to reveal the name of a CIA officer?[sm=biggrin.gif]

Again, Ron Paul's non-intervention philosophy just sounds better and better everyday!

The election for the constitutional referendum is expected to be extremely close. So Chavez now how to make up some sort of CIA story in order to claim he needs those new powers in order to fight off the evil American imperialists.

Anyone that doesnt see what that man is doing is completely blind to history....

Are you suggesting the USA doesn't involve itself in Latin American elections? Say like Nicaragua in 1990 and 2001?

...which history? The one where the USA always behaves impreccably in foreign countries, or the one where it employs dirty tricks in other countries in order to satisfy US domestic concerns?

cyberdude611 -> RE: US tampering with Venezuelan Election? (11/29/2007 1:51:30 PM)

It's amazing how fast people are to blame the USA without hearing any evidence whatsoever. You are basically taking the word and side of a dictator.

If you go back to WW2, Hitler made many speeches accusing the United States of tampering with Germany's interests. He made it a big propaganda point. His intention was to get the people to believe that they needed him in order to protect them from the Americans. All dictatorships have used the same line. The Soviet leaders used that claim for decades to justify their dictatorships.

Chavez is saying the same things. He was legally elected and now consolidating power. That's how the Nazis came to power. He's got control over the media. He has control over the legislature and the courts. Civil liberties are being suppressed. Journalists are being thrown in jail. Oh....but that's all OK...we will overlook that because he's so wonderful to the poor and he hates Bush.... Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds?

This man is a dictator! And Im just in complete awe that so many people even here in the USA sympathize with that tyrant and fall for his propaganda hook, line, and sinker.

And frankly I can only hope the CIA is tampering to bring his dictatorship down. Maybe we havn't lost all our balls.

Archer -> RE: US tampering with Venezuelan Election? (11/29/2007 2:17:34 PM)

So Venezuella's CIA says they got a US CIA memorandum, anybody else see the potential for this being a real Soloman like who's baby is this situation?

Hugo's spies say Bush's spies made this memo?

Who's spies you going to believe? Since both are in the same business.

Add to that the plain bias of the author, anti US, Pro Hugo Chavez evident with a little research of her other writtings.

Stephann -> RE: US tampering with Venezuelan Election? (11/29/2007 2:38:11 PM)

Chavez's intelligence agency has proof that the US intelligence agency plans to re-rig his rigged elections?

Age old chinese sayings concerning spies:

"17. Without subtle ingenuity of mind, one cannot make
certain of the truth of their reports.

18. Be subtle! be subtle! and use your spies for every
   kind of business. "

Orion

Stephann -> RE: US tampering with Venezuelan Election? (11/29/2007 3:36:25 PM)

Good sayings, Orion.  Where'd you get em?

So, what irks me about the whole issue, is that clearly Chavez is playing the pied piper with the good folks of Venezuala.  The question isn't really "should the US get involved."  The question becomes "what involvement should the US have?"

With power, comes responsibility.  If we should just sit back and watch, that's great; that's what our spies are supposed to do first.... watch!

Show what actions he has taken that make him a dictator.   I dont see it.

Chavez Remains Far from a Dictator

Is Chavez a Dictator?

History Channel: Hugo Chavez is not a dictator. ...

He took over the media btw because it was used against him by the cia to execute a coup against him.  They now have a democratic media, something we could only wish we had.

Since the U.S. has a long and well documented history of meddling in the internal affairs of sovereign nations it would seem that rather than taking the "side" of the legally elected and reelected president of Venezuela it is more the case of recognizing a consistent pattern of behavior.

If you go back to WW2, Hitler made many speeches accusing the United States of tampering with Germany's interests.
Perhaps you might give us some citations for these speeches and let us read them for ourselves.

He made it a big propaganda point. His intention was to get the people to believe that they needed him in order to protect them from the Americans. All dictatorships have used the same line. The Soviet leaders used that claim for decades to justify their dictatorships.
Was the Soviet claim unfounded?

Chavez is saying the same things. He was legally elected and now consolidating power. That's how the Nazis came to power.
He's got control over the media. He has control over the legislature and the courts. Civil liberties are being suppressed.
Sounds a lot like bush&co and the patriot act.

Journalists are being thrown in jail. Oh....but that's all OK...we will overlook that because he's so wonderful to the poor and he hates Bush.... Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds?
Would it be less stupid to fuck the poor and love bush&co?

Do you feel the same way about the dictators in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia?

And frankly I can only hope the CIA is tampering to bring his dictatorship down. Maybe we havn't lost all our balls.
Do you feel that the U.S. should rule the world?
