I think I would try to see her alone occasionally. But call her before the holidays next year and say something like "You know, you are always welcome to join us for Thanksgiving or Christmas if you want to come. But I usually try to set the table the day before so I'd appreciate a call before that either way". Something like that would tell her she is invited without putting any pressure on her, and that you're only asking for a yes or no because of the need to find extra chairs and such.

Thanks celeste we do get together - we meet half way, she takes the subway to the Bronx i drive down to pick her up - we spend the day together. She has come up for overnights and taken the train-subway back (she has no car). i have driven to see her but parking is so expensive IF you can find it. Street parking i am afraid of since i had my car towed once and it was a NIGHTMARE.
