Absolutely go get some education! There's a class of anxiety patient called cutters who are really practiced at carving themselves up- and will occasionally bleed to death by accident. You'd be amazed how a bad choice of location or a slip can open a fair sized vessel. They're there, under the skin. These people study this- it's an obsession. They also die by accident, or need some serious stitches when they screw up. Used to work in that field. Seen some bad stuff with cutters.
A good workshop will give you good information, especially about blades to use. Do NOT use exacto blades- not sharp enough, can go too deep to easily, because they aren't sharp enough and you push them, and they're covered in oil and not sterile. Trust me- I've seen exacto knife messes and nobody wants to bother with that. Not the desired effect.
You can get lancets at a drugstore. They have to be safest of the possibilities, but some people will scar from anything.
My apologies for getting grisly- but if you want to do a blood or cutting ritual it's pretty serious and that whole Risk Aware, Safe and Sane thing gets important. And if you have to call 911 it'll be hell to explain...
