A bucket of icy water and a fire extinguisher at the very least.

We have both of these items on hand whenever we do any fireplay at all.

I presume you know this, but just in case......

The dry chemical in fire extinguishers is very caustic and not something you want to spray on a person.  Water and a fire blanket are what you want to use on the individual.  The extinguisher on objects that accidentally catch fire.

NOTE NOTE NOTE: I have not even experimented with the idea so how long you can leave the pool of alcohol burning in a low temp wax bowl, I have no idea. So I would suggest you build the bowl on a table and see what happens before you try it on a person.

For anyone 'hot' to try this, I'd suggest doing so on a metal table, like a work bench or something, and to place an oven thermometer under the bowl.  Just because it doesn't set the table on fire, doesn't mean it won't damage the skin in question.

Apparently, this is how it's done, as told by IAMJUSTME2C.

quote:

Eternal Fire is a mix of wax and fire play. Basically making a cup out of the wax and placing it on the body filling it with alachol and setting it on fire. Tis will burn for quite some time. Remember you MUST always keep a eye on the sides to makesure they are not melting to fast and the alachol does not spill out. (Big mess lots of fire that was not intended and the fire department will not like you at all) Making the base at least 1/4" thick (for extended play) and the walls half as thick. Lets not get over excited and make them a few inches high about 3/4 of a inch will be more then enough. pour hot wax on the persons body and then place as many cups as you wish on the hot wax. This will ensure that they get a good seat on the skin and do not slide. Fill with a surenge so the alachol does not slosh arround. Light and enjoy. DO NOT USE 90% alachol ONLY USE 70% or less.

this is pretty much what Archer had proposed. I won't be attempting it just yet, as I don't feel too comfortable lighting people on fire in my home..but, I may experiment with burning times and a thermometer. If anyone decides to give this a shot, I'd like to hear about it.

That, plus 70% alcohol?  That's not merely flammable- that's explosive, damn it!

Well lets see a Chemical Engineer should know better.
Flamable has a set definition flash point under 100 degrees F
Combustable has a set definition flash point Under 200 degrees F
Isopropyl Alcohol has a flash point of about 70 degrees F so it is fixed frimly in the flamable range.

To contitute "Explosive"  with 70% isopropyl alcohol you would have to have an air fuel mixture over 2% LEL and under 12% UEL isopropyl alcohol in air.

Consideing that the PEL is 400 ppm with a recomended level of 200 ppm in air the odds that you would even be able to reach 2% in a play space is pretty low because you'd start to get light headed long before you reached it.
2%= 20,000 ppm you would have long since passed out from the vapors

So you might wanna recheck your study materials before making such pronouncements in the future.

While I can appreciate a condescending rant as much as the next fellow, I do believe you're putting words in my mouth.  Isopropyl alcohol's rather sterically hindered without a decent electron withdrawing group to promote the oxidation of the hydroxyl group.

Point being, yes, I'm a chemist, not an expert on fireplay.  If you use isopropyl excusively, then that would be a good point to bring up; however, I wasn't talking about it in specific.

It is isopropyl alcohol that we use in fire play, and only the 70% variety, rather than the also widely-available 90% variety.  Not, say, Bacardi 151, or pure alcohol.  Alcohol can mean so many things, but it is rubbing alcohol people refer to when using it to light one another on fire in a fun way.

I would do the mindphuck, I would drink the rum and burn her with the 70% isopropyl.......telling her that she is a rum and coke all the time.

Eternal Flame is a totally chick 80s song.

That said, although the "proper" wax bowl method of doing the eternal flame thing has been discussed on this thread, I want to offer an additional caution for anyone who thinks setting a bottom on fire sounds like fun.

I set a buddy of mine on fire once using stunt gel, a full body burn, and the safety precautions we had in place were intense. Under no circumstances should anyone in the scene be considering this kind of activity unless they are BOTH professionals. We weren't, which kind of makes us idiots :P

I'm sure most of you didn't need that warning, but since fire is such a seductive thing to play with I wanted to put it out there.

The closet thing I get to fireplay is having a candle on my night stand....and Im such a wimp I keep a fire extenguisher right next to that.....

I personally am terrified of fire...main reason why my safe word is fire...something that is a massive red flag for me anyway...well..that and its really fun to see the reaction when you scream FIRE in the middle of a huge fetish party.......

It's the Everclear I think they mean, which is a primary ingredient in Purple Jesus.  Which factored heavily into parties I attended in college, or so I am told.  I have no recollection of that.

Gee and here I thought that a quotation would counter any thought that I was putting words in your mouth.

If you were unsure of which alcohol was being spoken about maybe you should have asked for clarification rather than making the pronouncement that it was "explosive" without knowing which alcohol was in use.

Fireplay generally uses either isopropyl or ethyl alcohol, although as many have said using ethyl (drinking) alcohol is considered by some to be a waste. In a post about fireplay it would be pretty safe to assume one or the other is being discussed.
Niether of them at 70% is going to constitute anywhere near an explossive characteristic, considering vapor preasure, LEL, flash point, and a normal sized room with standard ventalation.

Dear Archer, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have agreed with all you have posted Archer.

I just wanted to add, that not all wax is the same or have the same flash points, e.g. beeswax, parafin and candle wax, etc.

On top of that--just wax in a plain state; the colors add chemical properties as does 'scents.'  That alters performance and heat of wax as well.

Melted wax in a crock pot will be different than dripping melted wax from the well of liquid wax from a lighted candle.

Just some thoughts.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

Back in  Days Of Yore, when the sleepwear of UMs was not coated with flame retardant, my sister's bathrobe caught on fire.  I was 4 or 5, and am told that I drew pictures of my sister as a Roman Candle for quite a while.  I see no fire play in my future.  I'm fine with candles; I cook with gas.  I love a good fire in the fireplace.  But me? On fire?

alright, I've seen the term UM used on these forums one too many times to continue to ignore it. What does UM mean?
