ORIGINAL: CuriousLord That, plus 70% alcohol? That's not merely flammable- that's explosive, damn it! Well lets see a Chemical Engineer should know better. Flamable has a set definition flash point under 100 degrees F Combustable has a set definition flash point Under 200 degrees F Isopropyl Alcohol has a flash point of about 70 degrees F so it is fixed frimly in the flamable range. To contitute "Explosive" with 70% isopropyl alcohol you would have to have an air fuel mixture over 2% LEL and under 12% UEL isopropyl alcohol in air. Consideing that the PEL is 400 ppm with a recomended level of 200 ppm in air the odds that you would even be able to reach 2% in a play space is pretty low because you'd start to get light headed long before you reached it. 2%= 20,000 ppm you would have long since passed out from the vapors So you might wanna recheck your study materials before making such pronouncements in the future. While I can appreciate a condescending rant as much as the next fellow, I do believe you're putting words in my mouth. Isopropyl alcohol's rather sterically hindered without a decent electron withdrawing group to promote the oxidation of the hydroxyl group. Point being, yes, I'm a chemist, not an expert on fireplay. If you use isopropyl excusively, then that would be a good point to bring up; however, I wasn't talking about it in specific.
