Gee and here I thought that a quotation would counter any thought that I was putting words in your mouth.

If you were unsure of which alcohol was being spoken about maybe you should have asked for clarification rather than making the pronouncement that it was "explosive" without knowing which alcohol was in use.

Fireplay generally uses either isopropyl or ethyl alcohol, although as many have said using ethyl (drinking) alcohol is considered by some to be a waste. In a post about fireplay it would be pretty safe to assume one or the other is being discussed.
Niether of them at 70% is going to constitute anywhere near an explossive characteristic, considering vapor preasure, LEL, flash point, and a normal sized room with standard ventalation.

I said "alcohol"- and you gave me the numbers for a specific alcohol.  Some alcohols can create blackholes.. but, you know, I just didn't happen to be talking about those, either.

Of course, it's a good thing that fire players have found a way of working with those things responsbily.  Still, that didn't warrent the comment which, yes, was putting words in my mouth; I was talking from a chemist's point of view, not a fireplayer's.

Still, I do hope you can understand how someone talking about burning a type of chemical which is often considered an explosive risk in the lab to spark a comment on the danger of it.  After all, you've completely neglected the gas/liquid phase constant which tends to be rather high with alcohols, particularly in the warm environments, such as those near flames, which is potentially explosive.

Or, rant asside, no, I don't know about your fireplay habits.  However, the statement about the potentially explosive nature of alcohols isn't something I need to "recheck [my] study materials before making such pronouncements in the future" about for.

(Or, in earnest.. I'm annoyed that you took such an immature approach to pointing out that those you would consider to be responsible kinkers would use.)

It is isopropyl alcohol that we use in fire play, and only the 70% variety, rather than the also widely-available 90% variety.  Not, say, Bacardi 151, or pure alcohol.  Alcohol can mean so many things, but it is rubbing alcohol people refer to when using it to light one another on fire in a fun way.

Thanks for the explanation.   Do fireplayers manage to avoid too many mishaps?  Seems like it could still be a dangerous bit.

All drama aside, I think it's safe to say that until someone can show a proof of concept, this myth has been busted.

Ok...so I've read the recommended technique and I've still gotta say that submissives don't make good level surfaces and they tend to wiggle (or simply breathe). It would seem that spillage would be a huge potential problem out of these little wax cups....and spillage of flaming alcohol just doesn't sound like a good thing. Not to mention that it doesn't take long for candles to liquify when lit...and we are talking low temperature wax here. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE fireplay....but this sounds like a bad idea.
