I find when Im talking to a sub, I instinctively slip into a more formal way of talking....instead of saying...."ok, I want u to take off ur clothes and get down in front of me".....its more like...." It would please Me greatly to have u kneel before Me and offer ur body and mind for Me to do with as I will" .....and this relates to almost all of the conversations I have, sexual in nature or not. Its almost as tho its slipping into a different mindset that unconciously takes over My way of speaking as well. Is this fairly common....or just Me?

I use formal speech all the time.  I think it is a lost art, actually.  But, i might be the oppposite when it comes to talking to my houseboy as i certainly use a lot more profanity than i ever would otherwise.  :)

Each has his own when it comes to sex and seduction. What works for you is what works for you. Anyways, it's just not you. However, your way of speeking normally takes place a Ren Fares, SCA events, and novels. I go back and forth based on the mood I'm in.

Cheers, you're not crazy.

I tend to use it on and off too. Depends really on my mood, and what I'm discussing.

They might be even more impressed with your formal way of speaking if you spell out simple words like "you".  <smile>  The text speak stuff is a HUGE turn off for most of the women I know.

I rarely do this in online conversations or on the phone, but my mindset and speech do change when I'm talking with a sub in person. I find myself unconsciously using a deeper tone and yes, perhaps just a bit more formal language. Never realized I do that until prompted by this post.

UGH...'text speak' is just terrible!  It makes me question the poster's reading/comprehension level!  The main reason why I don't 'text' much at all is because I refuse to use the abbrieviations and such, and one message can take me 20 minutes to write out on the phone!  I don't change my way of speaking for people.  I may call different people different things, but my overall manner of speaking remains the same.  Perhaps I'm not understanding what you all mean by 'formal speaking'.  Maybe it's just what is normal for me.  I'm a huge stickler for proper spelling and grammar at all times possible.

I was actually thinking about something very similar to this earlier this week.  With my former Dominant I always tried to use proper grammar and tried to avoid sounding unintelligent because the how he talked to me was always very formal.  It wasn't a bad thing it was just sort of respect for each other (at least for me it was respect for him).

However with my Daddy now it's much different; I don't show him any less respect by speaking to him the way I do our relationship is just a lot different and I'm much more informal with him.  I don't spell check every message or look up the proper use of comma when we are just instant messaging each other.

So my general conclusion is that as a submissive I try to 'match' however my Dom talks to me because it seems to make the conversation feel more natural because obviously if someone is speaking to me in Shakespearean English it's going to seem pretty awkward when I respond with "yo, mann u b purdy kew."

A more formal way of speaking is appropriate at times and much appreciated from my point of view, helping to set the scene so to speak, get the mindset going.  Informal, as in text speak, is just plain annoying and  makes me wonder if  the writer can even spell  full words.  Formal in text  speak is an oxymoron, sorta like Military Intelligence.  I  would tend  to ask you to make up your mind.

I am wondering if it is remotely possible to hear in a face-to-face conversation how a person spells their words in their head. That is, of course, assuming the rest of the world has little subtitles going in their minds as they speak.

I know several people, some of whom finished medical school (one even teaches English), who use abbreviations in texting and typed messages, mostly prompted by the company that makes their phone. The companies set the 'intuitive typing' to jump to widely accepted abbreviations first, which becomes the status quo for typing. This is a huge culture shift, and one that I do not personally believe is helping anyone learn to communicate or spell better. However, if we are talking about voice patterns and speech, which I believe we are, then none of that matters.

Formal speech is commonly seen in situations in which a person is dealing with different social ranks. That is why we call it formal. Stepping into this mode of speech when dealing with someone of much lower rank is no different from the way that other animals express higher social rank. The voice change gets the same explaination for men. It is a show of masculinity and rank. Your posture likely changes, with the feet spread more than usual, shoulders pulled further back, and head held higher. Bet you notice more now that I have pointed something else out.

Final Note- It would behoove anyone who wishes to make snide remarks about the military to not do so in public forums for a community that has high amounts of both active and veteran soldiers, as well as those civilians who support thier causes. I do not believe in certain aspects of the current war, but we need these men and women to support and protect us, and if they get called up for a cause they didn't want to fight for, they have no choice but to go. The least I ask of you is to support the troops, as they don't choose our wars. Elected officials do that, then our boys get to go fight for them.

It's good- it means you have a sense of social boundaries.  Until you become socially close to someone, you should stick closer to the known and accepted rules of social interaction.  It is only over time as you meld into eachothers bubbles more and encounter more casual experiences together that you should be more relaxed in your mannerisms.

I swear like the average Aussie male in general; a whole lot less around the girl and NEVER at all during a scene or when I'm taking charge of her in general.  I mostly only call her 'girl' when we're alone but if I call her by name, esp her full Christian name, she immediately knows she's got some "splainin' to do"....

thank you for bringing this up. i havent noticed how this really does play into the order of things. i use a variety of speech tones, clarity, and volume in different situations. when using a slave for intense situations, heavy bondage or beatings etc,, there is a need for clear and loud( not yelling) speech, when slave is focused and concentrating itself on the situation at hand, orders need to be clear and exact as to not be misinterpreted. when the session is over and i am praising slave for doind a good job, my voice is softer, showing accecptance and approval of slaves well doing.

it is not weakness or submission when you show your slave love, care or compassion, it is a sign of your intregrity and understanding as a master

Even when I am texting I don't use text speak. I think it looks silly. If someone I am speaking with can't spell out a full word what does that say? Just My thoughts.

Is it more or less shallow than deciding someone is a "true submissive" based on a single forum post just because it aggrees with you?
