good luck with the surgery....

as to the rest of your question i have to file that under m....making mountains out of mole hills ...a collarme file that grows larger with each passing day.

life is way too short ...ya know?

I'm not quite sure everyone has realized this but...

I'm not asking for me. I don't even have a collar. It's simply a question that popped into my head while thinking about the things I needed to do to prep for this and I became curious as to how those who have permanent collars have handled similar situations. Removing my ring and handing it to my folks isn't something I'm happy about but it isn't causing me any stress. Of all the things I'm having to deal with regarding this surgery, it's the easiest.

I'm honestly just curious.

Personally i cannot wear metal, except very high quality things, for long periods of time, so in the past i have been given a leather anklet, and necklace to wear - so that i can wear them all the time.  No quite the same topic, but an idea none-the-less.

There's also the cases on which people may have allergies... i wont mention my crack up case when my ex Mistress put a collar on me the size of my bike chain!!! The padlock was as big as my back yards fence one and within half an hour my neck was wilting from the weight and the rubbing was making it all red.. !!

Much as I love some of the ritual and protocol associated with D/s, any submissive that is with me comes before the ritual and the protocol and that includes the symbols of D/s.  I put a collar on one submissive...and it was not permanent for just that reason.  I never wanted removal of a collar to stand in the way of any medical procedure that needed to be undertaken.  And as I taught her...the collar was only ever an outward symbol of what we stood for in each other's eyes and minds and hearts.

I had a locking collar that was on at all times...until one day I looked in the mirror, and my collar had left a bright orange ring all the way around my neck. Blasted thing had rusted and required replacing. :-p

I agree, that in-between time without a collar felt awkward (and even now that I'm un-collared, I still go nuts if I don't have /some/ kind of a necklace on my neck), the resulting medical procedure will be well worth the time.

Sending prayers, well-wishes, and lots of karma your way!

I have a locking eternity bracelet that only come off with a special tool.  Master’s rule is it comes off for medical reason and back on as soon as it can.  I personally hate the idea of taking it off but will do what is necessary to protect Master’s property.

* laughs* Last year I has surgery and forgot to take out my nipple rings. I had removed everything else before I left that morning. Well a few hours after surgery I started wondering why all the nurses and doctors had smirks on their faces every time they came near my bed. Well later that day I was sat able to sit up on the side of the bed and happened to look up, taped to the head of the bed  was a sign that said  “Ms. My Name Nipple rings” in big black letters. Taped to the sign was a small baggie holding my nipples rings…. Wanna talk about humiliation.

I have had several different surgeries and I used to be meek and do absolutely everything the great and almighty medical gods told me to, no questions asked.  But one day I had the nerve to ask.  One rather smart-ass nurse asked me if I wanted a sliver chain to end up inside my stomach after the procedure was over.  I said that I thought maybe, if that was really the reason, that some of the impossible to break medical tape would keep the chain where it belonged.  The next time I went in I just told the nurse a particular piece of jewlry that would have to be broken to get off was NOT being removed and if she'd get me the tape I would tape it. She said an additional concern in surgery is that if you were to need to have a defribrelator (sp) used any metal touching your body would leave a burn.  I told her if I was dead and needed to be "defibrelated" a small burn was going to be the least of my concerns. She shrugged and gave me the tape.  I am not a fanatic and I do remove most of the things that do not normaly come off (3 things total) but 1 absolutely never comes off and I have had 2 MRIs a cat scan and 2 major surgeries with tape over it.  As for airports, I go through and depending on the setting of the machine sometimes I set it off and sometimes I don't.  But then I have a huge piece of steel in an arm, so I have to contend with that as well, and I will simply step aside and ask for a hand scan.  I have found if I am patient and respectful, not rushed and cranky, it's not been a problem.

Just another idea and option.

Honestly, in today's medical world, I wouldn't be surprised if you encountered a situation where they refused to treat you if you didn't remove it out of concern that something would go wrong and you would sue. Which sounds nuts until you remember that patients have given them cause to be so cautious.

when i had my knee surgery (and had to remove all metal objects) 4 years ago this next spring, Fallcon gave me a purple ribbon and tied it around my wrist.  he called it a stunt double, and i was content.  i still have it, tied around the wrist of one of the teddybears on my bed.  :)

I used to have a locking bracelet that was given to me on a trip. I worried a bit about the airport metal detectors, but walked right through them in three different airports with no problems. I did eventually have him take it off because the lock got caught in my hair a lot (ouchie). Being that we were in an LDR, I was allowed to keep the key with me just in case of an emergency. I would've called him first if I was able to, but it was at my discretion in an emergency situation.

Its no biggie I have a silver golf bangle that cannot come off, been on my wrist for two decades now I think.  You go through, you set off the machine, they ask you to remove your shoes and belt, you still set off the machine, you politely point out what the offending object is and they wave the wand over you, frisk you, sigh deeply and send you on your way.  Just allow a few extra minutes for the procedure.

I think it's a good lesson in priorities and values- to cherish the connection, not the physical tangibles more.

Thank you.  my real collar is around my heart and intertwined with His and never needs removal.  The beautiful metal wire around my throat is a cherished symbol of something that cannot be expressed fully in words and i would not feel any less His slave if i wore no collar at all.
