AquaticSub -> When The Collar Has To Come Off (12/5/2007 7:21:02 AM)

As some know and some don't, I'm going to be having a surgery in a few weeks (assuming the insurance company doesn't cancel at the last minute... again, and assuming I don't back out, which I don't think will happen). For this, I have instructions to wear no metal whatsoever. No earrings, no promise ring, no wedding ring, no nothing. This is fine for me, I don't wear anything that can't be removed easily. I'm not happy about it, but I suppose I can trust someone else to hold onto the ring Valyraen gave me for a few hours. While not collared myself, I am aware of a definite fondness for permanent collars, bells and other things in the community. From my understanding, these items are usually made of metal. So I'm curious: What do you do when you have a permanent collar (or anything else you wear that is designed to be permanent) and it simply has to be removed, for surgery or otherwise? Thanks for reading,Aqua

You do what is necessary to insure the health and well being of masters shit. Unusual circumstances are just that and as long as it is justifiable in every respect, you are safe as in god's pocket.

End of joke.

I am a nurse and sometimes I have to go to MRI with my patients. So I can't have anything metal that I cannot take off at work.  If it is because of a test I am going to at work with a patient they have lockers that lock and I have always felt safe putting my collar in there. If it is for something other than work related and I have to keep it off for a duration of time the safest thing I have found to do it leave it at home. Leaving it with someone or entrusting the hospital to care for it while the surgery and recovery are being done is not a sure thing.

Sure I feel naked if I can't wear it for a time but it is precious to me and if I leave it at home I know it will be there when I get home. I have a jewelry box with a lock and I leave it in there.

I had to remove my collar the other day for my mammogram. When I was done I came out to the waiting area, simply handed my collar to my Master, and asked if He would put it back on for me. Which of course He did. [:)]
Edited to add: If medical necessity dictated my collar needed to come off....I am SUPREMELY confident my Master would WANT me to comply..AND in a TIMELY fashion...to Him my health is WAY more important then a collar.

ghitaPVH -> RE: When The Collar Has To Come Off (12/5/2007 7:35:56 AM)

My collar isnt a permanant collar, nor is it really even a collar, its a silver necklace, but Ive always treated it like a collar, he gave it to me in much the same way, and he and I know, I never touch it. He puts it on, and takes it off. It has to come off every day, because we have sulfer water and it tarnishes the silver the instant it touches it. Dont ask me why, silver just turns immediatly black as soon as it hits sulfer water. last year, he had to go to Ft lenonwood for 3 weeks, he asked me if I wanted him to leave it on, or take it off for the entire time he was gone..I had him leave it on but damn it took forever for me to clean it when he got home finally. I had to have a MRI a few years ago, and it happened all of a sudden and he was away with the Army for the weekend. I was freaking out at the hospital cause they said I had to take the necklace off. I think the docs thought I was nuts because they had to wait while I called P to find out what to do and he called his best friend who drove up to the hospital to take the necklace off for me. So M held on to my neckalce and my rings during the MRI and put it back on me when it was all over with.

~edited to add that I think (crosses fingers) that Im getting one of those permenant collars for christmas....but from what ive read even the permenant ones have some way of removing them, allen screws or what not...and in the case of a major emergency, ER's are always stocked with bolt cutters and I know for a fact my Sir would rather they take bolt cutters to a collar than risk my health. I would expect if it was a padlocked collar they could only cut the padlock and the collar itself would still be fine.

Kumasan2 -> RE: When The Collar Has To Come Off (12/5/2007 7:38:28 AM)

I know a girl who has a collar secured with an allen set screw covered with epoxy.  She'd worn it for about three years without removing it and found that she needed an MRI which would mandate its removal for several hours on at least one and likely more occassions.  She got so worked up about having to take it off she had to take anti-anxiety meds.

Her Master took her collar off for several periods prior to the MRI to adjust her to it and then placed it on his own neck when she went in.  I always liked that story.

Send them to me and I will sell them on E-Bay for you.

LordVelvet -> RE: When The Collar Has To Come Off (12/5/2007 7:43:48 AM)

I look at is as I do My wedding band. It doesn't come off. BUT when I was in the hospital 3 weeks ago and they said no jewelery I took it off. I don't remove it unless it is 100% necessary, and having surgery, like I was, is necessary. Just My thoughts.

Aqua, first best of luck to you and a speedy recovery.[sm=flowers.gif] If you’re worried about your ring have Valyraen hold on to it while you’re in surgery that way you know its safe.

Now to the question. Personally screw the collar (metal symbol) my partner is more important to me. If it has to be removed for a period of time fine, their health matters so much more to me. I know that for some people it is hard to let things just be side lined for a couple of hours (my sister being one of them, she hasn’t ever taken off her wedding ring) but some days a person’s health has to come first.

Maya2001 -> RE: When The Collar Has To Come Off (12/5/2007 9:29:27 AM)

Just got out of the hospital today from having a hysterectomy and left all metal at home I treated  it no different than when I was married or engaged my jewelry came off and went back on once I was home

KatyLied -> RE: When The Collar Has To Come Off (12/5/2007 10:01:39 AM)

I would think you just take off the objects and leave them at home while you are having your procedure.  It seem pretty simple to me.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: When The Collar Has To Come Off (12/5/2007 10:11:28 AM)

recently i had to remove my metal "wedding" ring (my collar) and everything else metal ...ankle chains included for my x-rays last week. i felt so damn naked and ordinary without the metal on. as soon as it was over i put the metal back on ...at least this time, i didn't forget the keys at home.

I'm mostly curious about collars that have been made in some way to make removing very hard, such as the collar whose latch was covered in epoxy, things that wouldn't be easy and simple to remove. If the collar has to be broken or like.

You are starting to slack off in your old age... only half of that was a joke... The part in red is about my thoughts on the subject, worded as good as I ever could

Aqua, (assuming from what I have read that you typed) Valyraen will understand why you need to take off your jewelery. Health is number one and the collar, ring, whatever is only a physical representation of the relationship. get the nessacary procedure done, I hope that you come through it well

Yeah, I guess there are some things you don't want to have to explain to the locksmith.  [8D]

Oh he understands completely. He is urging me to have this done so he is doing whatever he can to make it easier on me. I'm very very lucky. [:)]

I just read somewhere about how some slaves/submissives have collars, necklaces, bracelets and other jewelry that have had the latch removed or sautered together. Just made me curious how people have handled situations where these things had to be removed.

agirl -> RE: When The Collar Has To Come Off (12/5/2007 10:51:28 AM)

Mine can't come off unless it's taken off with pliers, as he fixed it on without any means of removal without breaking it, unless done that way.

I can imagine that in certain moods I'd hate having it off and in others, I wouldn't be as bothered. Knowing how attached I get to routine and objects, and how much I tend to invest in them, it's unlikely that I'd be completely ho-hum about it.

I can see that it's a bit daft to get too fretful about such things in situations where it's a necessity but I'm just as likely to as not.

Master and I LOVE the "idea" of a permanent collar but practicality dictates a removable one.[:)]

LadyPact -> RE: When The Collar Has To Come Off (12/5/2007 11:06:27 AM)

I know this isn't exactly what you mean, but I'm throwing it out there anyway.

The collar that I put on My submissive means a lot to Me.  He has a formal one, which is leather, but includes metal, and an 'everyday' one, which he can wear in most instances in public.  He hasn't been without either one or the other on his neck since the day I collared him.  I don't take the fact that he is submissive, rather than slave to have much instance in this regard.  A bit more explanation on Me, since it's relevant.  I've owned a slave before, and I do feel that influences the current dynamic, even though I am his Dominant.

My sub was given one rule the day he accepted his collar.  Though it may be a bit skewed for some to understand, since W/we are D/s, he was given one thing above all else.  That rule was, and is, to protect My property.  That means he is to protect himself, in the way I would want it done through My eyes.  This includes protecting himself above other things, such as symbols.  As much as that collar means to Me that I have put on his neck, I'd rather his neck be safe, rather than the collar.

In cases such as medical issues, I am no fool.  I want My boy to be safe, healthy, and happy.  Should that mean that his collar on his neck comes off, I understand it.  I am much more content that the collar that is clasped about his heart continues to remain.  That means he will continue to do what he needs to do to remain in this world, here with Me, whether he need to avoid immediate danger, or take preventative measures to ensure his long life.  That physical symbol, that collar, can always be replaced, if medically necessary.  My submissive can not.
