Regarding the OP, yes, I stated a few qualifications and preferences and I don't see this as an illogical or selfish thing to do. I am flexible, but I also don't want to wade through bigger piles of emails from people who are much less likely to be a match. I assume anyone who feels a real pull to other things I say in my profile and is a good potential match despite something not lining up perfectly to my ideal will have the confidence to express that. These I evaluate case by case. There is always wiggle room, but opening up the flood gates to any and all comers I find just leads to frustration on all sides.

It also makes it easier to politely decline uninteresting people when you have stated preferences that they don't match (even if that isn't the only reason for your decline). Is that shallow? Maybe, but I feel like it is kinder to say "Sorry, I'm just not attracted to people under 6'." to the boring loser who happens to also be 5'7", rather than think of a more complicated nice way to extricate yourself.

Very well said , thank you. I get more emails than i can answer in a day already comfortably and i had to set some mail controls that i really don't like because it could prevent me from getting to know someone who might be a very good match. But without some restrictions the whole thing gets way out of hand.

txnights05 -> RE: am i an ass? (12/7/2007 1:08:06 PM)

I want to thank you all for your responses both here and privately. Yes, i shouldn't take things so personally, i should consider the source of antagonism and not respond to it unnecessarily, and most of all should be true to myself. It was the abruptness and my perceived unwarranted aggression of the encounter that threw me. I will toughen up a bit after being here for a while.. lol

Thank you all again:)

I am not trying to be shallow or judgemental... these are attributes that i am attracted to and i didn't see a problem with putting them here... am i an ass for doing so? Should i word this differently, leave it out or....???

pam

BAH..

Don't waste another minute on him at all hon, he isn't worth it, there is nothing wrong with have a set of guidelines for the person you are looking for, or else you spend all your time trying to sort people out, seems to me like he fibbed a little on his age thing, and was scared that you'd catch him out, so attack is the best form of defence.  Don't let morons like that put you off, you're an attractive woman and no doubt will be an excellent choice for the lucky Dom who genuinely catches your eye and interest..

LadyLegs -> RE: am i an ass? (12/7/2007 5:30:50 PM)

There is one appropriate answer to being called an ass.... "kiss me"

My theory is that people are going to do what they want to do & make up the reasons afterwards.  For whatever reason, he had decided he was not "good enough" for you & he was probably right.

<snipped down to illustrate my final answer>

stating that he had read my profile since we chatted and was disappointed to find that i was interested in younger men and since that wasn't him and he didn't meet my "requirements" he wouldn't bother me anymore.. "in fact, since I now see that you want a younger man, I'll leave you be. People like you who classify others by ANY method are abhorrant to me. Besides, I have a scar on my left elbow so that MUST disqualify me as well. You'll NEVER find ANYONE worthwhile."

Should i word this differently, leave it out or....???

I take it you're not bi or you would have kept the pussy.

Leave the wording.

secretagentgirl -> RE: am i an ass? (12/7/2007 10:12:29 PM)

I agree that the manner in which he communicated was a bit over-reactive and harsh.  So in that regard I'd say you're better off finding out sooner that he can blow up like that.

On the other hand, I personally don't like profiles that state their "ideal" but then say/imply that they're open beyond that.  As a prev poster mentioned, either have your limits and stick with them or don't post them.

To anyone who is not your ideal, you have now made it clear right from day 1 that they are less-than-desirable to you.  And who wants to feel that way?  Or rather who gets excited about that?  Certainly not me.

When I read a profile that says "I prefer blonds but brunettes are OK too" I just move on. I'm a Brunette.  Why would I want to be with someone who I know prefers blonds.  I'm sure many men prefer blonds but they haven't explicitly stated it since they're open to brunettes too.

I went through this recently with a guy who's profile said something like "I prefer women big and young,"  He'd contacted me and I pointed out that I am small and older (well, I hate to use that word, but at 43 I don't think I qualify as young any more!)
He emphasized that he was still interested in me, but how could I get excited about it, knowing I was opposite of his preference?  Granted, I didn't write a nasty note back, just a firm one urging him to stick to the standards he'd posted.

I agree with your concept of why have the prefernces if they are unimportant..no one likes to feel as if they will simply "do"..However, your stance is coming from a submissive viewpoint. I personally would prefer a Dominant to view the preferences, and if a fairly close enough match to them ,to take confidence in hand and give it a shot..This Dominant was showed interest, even being outside stated preferences, which should of showed him that he had captured her "mentally"..but he then went into "wuss" mode and backed out..Now logic would say,more than likely he initially lied about his age to begin with and was far from stated age and upon perusing preferences, knew he could not pull a huge fast one in that arena and decided to "save face" and put the onus upon her..So now you have a Dominant who now lacks confidence..possibly lacks honesty..and more than likely is unable to accept responsibility for his own actions and plays the blame game upon the submissive...This particular frog needs to go back to the pond...Tempting

Pooh had been reading this OP for a long time. But being a bear with a Very Small Brain he couldn't work out the answer. He didn't understand half the words and his tummy was rumbling and he felt that he needed honey. On the way he met Piglet, who was carrying a new laptop, and so Pooh decided to ask Piglet to log into Collarme. However Piglet had a laptop with Windows Vista which had problems with the wireless connection.

They decided to go and see Owl. Owl was the only one in Hundred Acre Wood with a cable Internet connection, and the only Linux user. Owl persuaded Piglet to install Ubuntu, and the wireless connection was quickly configured. Pooh asked Owl to check out the OP. But Owl didn't have an account on Collarme, only Pooh. And so Pooh logged on and showed Owl and Piglet the OP. Owl studied the OP for a long time, and decided that the answer lay in the title. Owl asked Pooh if Eeyore had been asked, and Pooh replied that no, Eeyore had not been asked. Pooh and Piglet decided to go see Eeyore, but via the edge of Hundred Acre Wood where a new Walmart store had opened so Pooh could have his elevenses.

Finally they found Eeyore in the same place. Using Piglet's laptop and Pooh's account, they both asked Eeyore to read the OP. Eeyore clicked on the profile - Pooh had sticky fingers and Piglet wouldn't allow him near the laptop - and looked at the photos.

Eeyore says quite definitely you're not an ass, nor are you a donkey either.

An Ass is a half donkey and half horse, and having quickly viewed your profile, I see no such animal, just a pretty reasonable human being. However from his plaintive braying there are some indicators that upon further investigation he may be a ass.

laurell3 -> RE: am i an ass? (12/8/2007 12:22:58 AM)

Wow I just got all warm and fuzzy reading a Winnie the Pooh story....how often does that happen on CM?  [8D]

MissMagnolia -> RE: am i an ass? (12/8/2007 12:33:00 AM)

Once upon a time, there was a dickhead on CM. He wrote to the beautiful Lady txnights05. He turned out to be a complete wankstain. Lady txnights05 wasted a bit of time on a dickhead, but didn't really care. She moved on to bigger and better things. He sat at home on his PC, like the sad, pathetic creature that he was. He died shortly after, from excessive wanking. The End[:D]

laurell3 -> RE: am i an ass? (12/8/2007 12:34:33 AM)

You gotta love "wankstain" and death by wanking for the villan.

txnights05 -> RE: am i an ass? (12/8/2007 2:57:09 AM)

Word spread and the literary prowess of this group became legendary which attracted hordes of surrounding wankstains undeterred by the death of their previous companion. The brave and wise literarians from cmville were prepared to take on the influx of wankstains and after a short but arduous battle the wankstains fell to the wit and cunning of their twue Masters. The citizens of cmville were overjoyed and rejoiced knowing they were again safe and free to pursue the many delights that had been abundant before the invasion.

Actually a mule is half horse, half ass. An ass is another member of the genus equus, just as zebras are.

But I agree the problem is not with the op. And I loved the Pooh story!

Just another random crazie.
