I've never given one, but have recieved them.
I think they show a lack of creativity to be honest.
Although saying that if they were for manola blahnik or jimmy choo id be pretty god damn happy.

So the value of creativity has its limits......

Generally, I prefer to pick out items other than the gift cards, but this year has been a long and tiring one, so I'm going with "easy".

You got it, MM, but I don't know how I'll get Roger Waters into the envelope.

My partner is a shopaholic, he is saying get him a gift card, but I don't want to.  He's not easy to shop for though, when he wants something, he buys it and I can't give sex or activities because I give that freely anyway

laurell, ask him to give you a list of items; that's what I do for the ladies at work, so they'll know they'll get me something I want.

I get the "don't get me anything, I don't need it" speech then.  He's getting something, it's not going to be a gift card and he may not like it damn it!

I couldn't vote. *is sad*  Not due to anything technical, because the option wasn't there.

See, I give gift cards with actual gifts, for one.  For another, I often sketch, ink, and otherwise make them myself, to add a personal touch.

I do gift cards, cash or gifts, just depending on who it is for.  I don't see gift cards as being lazy or uncreative.   My ex-neighbor who lost who husband and has several animals would much rather have the gift card to Petsmart that I give her every year than a sweater or candles.   My son would much rather have cash to go get what he wants and I would rather give it to him than run his ass around taking everything back.

Hell, if you lack creativity and decide to give a gift card, make sure it's to a place I want to shop.  Otherwise, just give me the damn cash and I'll go buy my own gift.  Oh, look at that...I sound like some pro-dommes!

Oooh Level, I would loooooove an i-tunes gift card !  Think of all the music I could download to shake it to.  I-tunes is where I go for bellydance music.  Sometimes Master will come home look at the i-tunes list and say "Do I have any money left?"  Heheh, then I smile guiltily 'cause I know I've been bad..but what can I do?  I must SHIMMY !

I like gift cards.  I think they are great when you want someone to have a personal item that you don't want to pick out for them.  Often people will come into my shop ( it's a stitching store) to buy a gift and are stumped as to what to get them.. So I have to ask questions like " What do they like to stitch, fairies, angels, dragons, blackwork?" They always almost answer with an "I dunno" They never know what type of fabric the stitc her stitches on either.. and that's really a personal preference. In this case I think it's better not to buy the gift but to buy a gift card.  Stitching is personal and best left to the stitcher unless you really know what they want.  Same with books and music, often perfume and make up too.

I hate nothing more then when someone lays down a hundred bucks for a perfume I wont wear.  My father in law insists on buyin' me perfume and it's  heavy and remeinds me of an old woman.  I've asked him nicely not to buy my any more.  Besides that's something a husband should buy I think.  Last year I ended up with 2 bottles of expensive perfume that ended up in the trash because I could not give them away... how sad is that?

Oh, but Level ya know what I do hate? Is when someone gives me a small dollar amount at a really pricey store.  Now, I like small dollar amounts at non-pricey store, that's cool..like a book shop or a coffee shop or Target, K-mart or Big W.  But don't send me into Meyers or Davey Jones with 40 bucks.   I'll feel bad for not using the card.. so then I have to lay down an extra $70-100 to walk out of the store with something. ( and by something I mean the least expensive item I can find)   And that's defeating the purpous of the gift card..isn't it?
