The word "crit" is a slang term for the gaming jargon "critical strike" or "critical hit". Derived from early pen-and-paper games such as Dungeons & Dragons, it is an attack roll (that is, a roll of the d20 [or 20-sided die]) that results in a natural 20, which is an automatic success on the attack and allows for the dealing of double or triple damage, depending on the weapon used. Some weapons allow a critical for any number between 19- or 18-20, which is listed as it's "threat range".
It has been adopted in video game design, for instance RPGs and MMOs, where a percentage of every attack is given double or triple damage. Players can use items, spells or other abilities to increase this percentage.
