I've been dominant since very early in my life, and playing the submissive role has never appealed to me in that deep, personal way that I feel when I taking on my natural aspect. However, I've been thinking lately that it would give me a sense of perspective to enter into slavery/submission in order to help me better understand the needs of my own submissives. In fact, the more I think of it, the greater a sense of responsibility I feel to do what I demand of others. Do any of you understand what I mean, and do you have any advice to offer on gaining this perspective?

Do you/or have you Sir ever owned a switch that you could order her to dominate you at times? Perhaps that could give you the best comfort level.

Yes, I understand. I have been in service on a number of occasions. Choose the kind of service you want to give (I didn't want to give sexual service) and consider what your limits are. Then choose someone you respect OR a program of some sort. Master Taino runs a slave Training Academy that is very good. Butchmanns is also very good, if you lean toward the spiritual side of things. There are other good ones out there, too. I've served friends and I've served at an event. Both were very informative and taught me that I have a Servant Archetype, not a slave heart. Master Fire

I understand in theory and could see the benefit maybe to someone in casual play but the reality of a relationship or even how specific things are done is just so individualized. Dominants and submissives are different people. You can probably get an idea of what the physical and time demands that are placed on a submissive but at most you can only really get probably very little of the mental and emotional demands and enjoyment that we do and of course if it was vice versa. What you would probably find difficult, annoying and tough a submissive might find totally awesome and vice versa. That difference has a dramtic difference when perspective is a major factor which is what understanding would have.

Personly..it wouldn't make any sense for me to do that. I could PRETEND I was submitting....but it isn't actualy in me to do so. I don't think Iwould learn anything expect I didn't like it Jeff

There are alot of Dominants that have stated that for them, it was very important that they understand the role of submissive, and that the best way to understand that was to be on the other side of the flogger so to speak. If it works, and it helps, then go for it.

OP please ignore the antics, the "other side" has taken it's toll on sanity, There have been a number of threads on this topic and what toservz has posted seem to be the general answer. While you may learn some mechanics, you can never really understand emotionally what it means to submit and that is the primary motiviation for most. As a switch, however, I find it quite ironic to take a primarily dominant man and help him understand how difficult some of the things he requires can actually be. Insight into just the physical limitations one must overcome can certainly be valuable.

Your current submissives may be so appalled by the idea of you submitting that their perception of you can be damaged beyond repair. I don't know them, of course and they may be open-minded ... but if you are doing it for any reason other than the fact that 'you' want to experience it, be prepared for the backlash it could cause in simply trying to gain understanding to the other side. This is no offense to you at all.. but your logic seems both flawed and false. That's just my perceptions, but there it is. Good luck with whatever you decide to do .. but do try to be honest with yourself as to 'why' you're doing it otherwise you're putting a burden onto your submissives that isn't their's to carry. Celeste - been through the 'master' who wanted to submit for my benefit scenario already
