No, I doubt it very much. Consider how much the budget deficit and national debt are in the news and yet there is no public outrage.

Consider that in the current fiscal year, the U.S. government has spent $314 Billion on interest payments alone - and that doesn't include the money that was spent in August and will be spent in September.

The amount of money spent on foreign aid is a small fraction of the money that is wasted on interest payments on the national debt. But the public doesn't seem to care that 10% of the federal budget goes to pay interest: that is $100 out of every $1000 you pay in taxes being spent and not buying anything.

Gas has gone up $0.40 in two days, and we're at $3.10.

Hubby's been riding the bus to work for a while, now, and we're cutting out any unessential driving, but in a couple of weeks we've GOT to make a trip to go see family. Gas alone is going to cost us over $130, and we drive a little Kia. *sigh* I'm contemplating more and more the amish lifestyle.

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Middle East countries. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:

Shell............................ 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels

If you do the math at $60/barrel, these imports amount to over $36 BILLION! (oil is now $60-$70 a barrel)

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:
Citgo......................0 barrels
Sunoco...................0 barrels
Conoco..................0 barrels
Sinclair.................0 barrels
BP/Phillips............0 barrels
Hess.......................0 barrels
ARC0....................0 barrels

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.

Do you realize that the Middle East includes Kuwait, UAE, Dubai, Bahrain, a free Iraq and other oil producing nations besides what ever countries (Saudi Arabia?) you claim are trying to kill you? Probably not. But that really makes your list worthless because you can't distinguish the "bad" Middle Eastern oil from the good.

Also implied by your list of Middle East "safe" gas stations is the notion that if everyone were only to buy their gas there that oil money wouldn't go to the Middle East. Of course, that is ridiculous because even if everyone were to do that the supplies wouldn't materialize out of thin air -- those companies would just have to get their supplies from someone else who gets it from the Middle East! Not to mention that anytime you buy a product made overseas you would be indirectly paying for the energy used to make that product, and where do you think that comes from?

Status: offline 		Well, it's hard to find a warm and fuzzy oil company, but Shell's exploits in Africa have been scandalous. I really don't think there is a good choice to be made. I find I get the best performance from Mobil, but I'm not a big fan of that company, either.

In Brazil, lots of cars run on ethanol (ethanol can run 4-stages engines). And in Germany, more and more vehicles run on vegetal oil (vegetal oil can run 3-stages engines (am I using the correct terms ?)).

Status: offline 		I guess you mean biodiesel (which came up earlier in this thread). I'd love to run my car on biodiesel, but my local Sunoco doesn't have it at the pump.

Edited to add a link to a recent Reuters article about ethanol. Sounds like it's still years away.

Status: offline 		2.99 now in Michigan. Our Governor made a deal with Marathon/Speedway execs not to put the price of unleaded above 2.99 in Michigan. They did it, and now all the other stations find they're having to follow suit. It's gone from 3.69 some places back to 2.99.
