i was at my munch group at night and some people were talking about how how they couldn't get on Castle Realm. Does anyone know what happened to it ? It was such a wonderful site. One of the best educational sites i've ever seen. i've recommended to people curious about the lifestyle.

Castlerealm has/had it's place.
I know it's not loved around here - but I do find it kinda funny that probably one of the most liked and listened(according to posters responses) to long term posters here was a moderator on it at one point (if I remember rightly her saying on CM).  So it can;t be all bad and not everyone there are as people perceive.
I may be wrong - but I'm sure she was.

the.dark.

No, Castle Realm was not all that bad. I just found it too 'romantic' for my tastes. It seemed to center around the romanticism of slavery and not the hard cold facts.

I was worried for a minute when you wrote that Castle Realm romanticizes slavery....so i went back and read the titles of the articles and.....to my relief not one mentioned slavery.

Castle Realm is about a romantic and loving relationship between a Dom and a sub.  That sounds very much like my own life.

Mine, too.  Daddy had me read some of the articles there when we first started down this road and I found it sweet that they had a bond similar to ours.

And that's all good and fine. I never said that others did not find the romanticism...romantic. You will of course, notice in my statement that I said 'I found"...meaning that this was my interpertation of the web site.

Fast reply-
I found Castlerealm when I was new, like many others- what irritated Me about it was not the romance- I think romance is wonderful, hearts and flowers all around...

What I felt was dangerous was the free and indiscriminate mingling of pure fantasy and reality- for instance there was an article claiming to describe a collaring ceremony, implying that this was really done by all bdsm folk....by and by, amidst all the tender wedding vows stuff, was a mention of how there was something about a ceremonial chain, and how this was of course always done in the Old Houses of Europe, and the chain was passed down generation to generation....

even as a rank newbie My bullshit meter exploded.

This was someone's fantasy being passed off on newbies as How It Should Be,which is part of why perfectly intelligent people enter the lifestyle and end up swallowing nonsense and trickery, by being led into a world where reality and fantasy are indistinguishable.

The BDSM world is not poorer for the site being gone.

Yes, i did notice that.  I'm one of those who think of slavery and submission as two different things....IMO.  Therefore, i felt a need to see if the web site in question was about slavery as i interpret that word.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Castle Realm may not be everyone's cup of tea.  However the words i've read here to describe that web site are uncalled for.

I still go back to read some of the articles.  I remember reading the one Jade wrote about being a sub without a Dom.  In it she talked about self improvement and what a sub could do to make personal improvements even without a Dom.  Here on Collarme i have more than once read a post written to a sub where self improvement...learning a skill such as cooking or massage, etc.... is recommended.  The very first place i read that advice was at Castle Realm.

I read posts on Collarme where people wish to make personal vows to one another.  They seek a ceremony that will help them symbolize their special feelings.  The poster is often told to go go Castle Realm to read the Ceremony of Roses or The Collaring Ceremony.

It's where i learned about safety, read my first BDSM activity check list, and learned that D/s need not include SM.  It's where i first learned of contracts, about how to use rituals, and the benefits of a submissive journal.  I don't see these subjects as particularly romantic, however, i guess some might think articles on mutual respect and trust are romantic.  (shrugs)

My mind keeps wandering back to my Thanksgiving dinner....turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, candied sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, apple dumplings, and pecan pie.  My dinner contained the substance of meat and potatoes as well as the fluff of a sugary desert.  It also included the candied sweet potatoes which i hate.  However, i did not throw out the whole dinner because i disliked one part of it.  I enjoyed eating those things i like.  I enjoyed the decadence of desert...the fluff.  And i left the sweet potatoes to someone else.

I know this is going to be unpopular but here it goes anyway.

When I first started learning about WIITWD I wasn’t ready for all the “hard core” stuff. I wanted and thought I needed romance, tenderness, love, and guidance. For me Castle Realm was a nice introductory and gave me enough knowledge to eagerly want to learn more. Most of the other sites were too much for me to handle, at that point.  SO maybe we shouldn’t be so hard on those that have used Castle Realm as a stepping stone while learning their way.

Thank you, DRH.  It's nice to know someone else who thinks romance and love and BDSM can exist together.

Heck, some of the other sites are too much for me to handle now.

I'm glad someone else has found Castle Realm a good place to start their journey.
