Thank you, DRH.  It's nice to know someone else who thinks romance and love and BDSM can exist together.

But, of course.  I know these elements can mutually coexist...  I have lived with them almost every day for the past 4 1/2 years.  Glad I'm not the only one.

Hi, peach!  Glad you're "one of us few" too...  (hugs to you, sweet lady...  miss you)

I think it is a shame.    When I came into the lifestyle, there were two learning sites, Castle Realm, and Deviant's Dictionary.  I spent hours learning definitions and philosphies of those two sites.
I will say that Castle Realm began to have problems when they went copyright crazy.
An internet site is an opnion of its owners.  As we know no one way is correct.  They did help me a lot in the beginning.

I'm glad someone else has found Castle Realm a good place to start their journey.

I did, many moons ago.  I find it interesting that the popular view on this site (at least my perception of it), is sub/slave/whatever - - it's what you define it to be, enjoy whatever works.  But then a site that could actually fit someone's description is mentioned and it's multiple pages of gagging and spoofing.  How is that not being a BDSM elitist?

In later years, Castle Realm didn't do it for me, since romanticizing slavery doesn't do it for me.  But lots and lots of folks on here do enjoy that sort of thing.  Apparently having a website to reflect it is vomit worthy...

Thank you, peppermint! BDSM IS more than just "activities" for players. Truthfully, I'm sick to death of people who think it's limited to discussions about three-handed fistings and four-handed floggings! (watch how many shallow comments flow outta that line!)
Part of what the initials B.D.S.M. stand for are Dominance (Dominants) and Submission (submissives), AND Slaves & Masters ... Those are RELATIONSHIPS, NOT merely activities by role-playing actors and wannabes!
Jade (the female part of the site's main contributors) was a wonderful submissive. I found a sister heart in her and her writings.
The information regarding "growing" of a submissive past fears and into confidance while still deepening the inter-dependence was priceless.
My opinion certainly isn't humble. And frankly, I don't give a damn. Engaging in BDSM without these sorts of insights is probably why so many people I run into here (and locally) are in therapy and/or on meds. (or should be!)

I wish I had copied all the articles I found so useful and real. This serves as a reminder to me, not to take things for granted. I innocently believed Castle Realm would be around forever.

You are very welcome, ricksub42.  As you have noticed, Castle Realm is not highly thought of by those who do a lot of posting in Collar Me.  They consider it too nice nice and candy coated BDSM.  (shrugs)  I see nothing wrong with that nor anything wrong with the sites that are more whips and chains oriented.  It's a point of view...and i loved some of the articles there and consider them educational and informative.

It's possible to want a romantic D/s relationship dynamic and also think that CR is full of shit.  Just saying.

Bursting your bubble here - but BDSM are activities, not what you are.
Yes I know that some people do include Ds within the acronym, however not everyone does so it is rather rude to assume it stands - as a term - that way for everyone - it isn't the original context - just an evolution (not a negative thang) of the term and nowhere is Masters/slaves mentioned in the acronym at all that I have ever been aware of (cite a reputable source if you wish).

That said, as I mentioned before - castlerealm and leathernroses have their place and were helpful to many people.  I have read many of the articles and just like anything or anywhere else there are subjective good and bad.  Take what you want, leave the rest.

As has been stated in previous posts about the "quality" of Castle realm... it is/was as others noted.. someones "opinion" of this lifestyle. What I had a problem with it was how I saw many novices both Dominant and submissive taking it as gospel as tho that was the 'authentic" or only 'real" approach to a BDSM perspective. I also believed it became a place where an internet dominant could learn the "key" words and phrases to pose themselves with a wealth of experience which amounted to not much more than "book" knowledge.

I started with Castle Realm, and agree that many people who were introduced to the lifestyle started there.

I went to the archives and started reading it again, and I guess I have grown a lot since then, because I saw their description of masochism and sadism much lacking. In fact masochism seems to be much misunderstood on Castle Realm because the owners of that site were not into S&M, and seemed to think that there was something unromantic and unloving about it, not that they stated this outright, but there is this sense that S&M is somehow not weal and twue as a way of doing WIITWD... and it is a very subtle thing. After reading it again, it is highly unlikely I would give the link out to Castle Realm to newbies as I had done in the past... because to me the lack of insight into why people are into pain is a glaring hole in Castle Realm for many of us, especially those who are just getting acquainted with their inner sadist or masochist
