Thats fair enough. Does your Dom have no desire to mark you with anything? like a Vanilla man would put an engagment/wedding ring?

But yes, Collaring is something that has to be important to the people involved, doesnt mean that the community shuns not following these rites. Its purely a choice for you to make.

He really doesn't.

He knows I'm his. I know I'm his and he knows I know I'm his :). The way he sees it, that's the thing that's important. There's no need for marks because we both -know- in our souls that I belong to him, forever and aye.

I very much enjoy wearing a collar, and a ring (we've exchanged rings) and I'll get an engagement ring when we get engaged. He wears a ring I gave him, but I think that's more because it means a great deal to me. I'm very much about visibility. (Another reason I got tattooed)

For him, knowing is enough. He doesn't need to see something to be reminded. I like to see it to get the warm fuzzies.

I -do- get some weird reactions from "the community" and often am made to feel icky because we -do- have a non-traditional relationship, in a community of non-traditionalists.

I dont think that you should get any static for not following their "so called traditions",
To be perfectly honest I dont see it as such a big thing as it they make it out to be. It is important between Mistress and I, but to us its basically an engagment ring, or a wedding ring.

So its just like every other part of the lifestyle, every relationship is different.

In another light, the collaring is a good way to mark a owned slave at say an event, but you can always put on a collar or the like at any time for that.

My collar reminds me at all times that I am owned, and I love that feeling. Not that I forget at all, its just that the constant feeling of it around my neck keeps me humbled, like my Mistresses arms around my neck at all times. It makes me happy.

Actually, as far as I can tell, it seems to have it's genesis online. Up to about 1990 or so, I'd never heard the term. Mostly the scene "markers" were taken from the Old Guard which was exclusively gay: things like hats for tops and hankerchief "flagging".

I started to see it in the message boards like Prodigy and the chat rooms like the ones on Compuserve and around 1992, it first seemed to appear in face to face organizations like Eulenspiegle.

My experience, with a few minor booksigning trips overseas, has been largely in the US scene.

You've got nothing to hang your head about. Youth is a self correcting condition after all, and one we all have been afflicted with.

I only wish I had the access to information and people you do today when I was that age.

Thats why I'm here :)

I love being able to approach more experienced members of the community, and learn what I can.

I nothing but the utmost respect for all of you, and hope that by the time I'm in your position, that I will be able to help those who are just starting like I am now :)

I do appreciate being patient with us though, I know that we can be kind of frustrating.

Hello There,
Collared is a BDSM term of endearment or ownership. It's a universal concept and not just in the USA. It's a symbol of commitment or ownership of a sub or slave to her/his master.
Sincerely,
sub suzanne

I think it's a lot of both, actually. Mostly, though, it's just convenient.

I think thats its a good term, but its just one of those terms that you use when it means something to you. Its not important that it is meaningful to you, but if it is, then use it :)
