ok i use aol a good bit because i have friends on there and we IM and sit in chat rooms and shoot the breeze.  but my internet on aol is broken.  i cant access any sites at all.  i have cleared the cache, cleaned the disc on the puter, rebooted, and cussed.  none of this has helped.

obviously (i think) its an aol issue because i can go to any sites on IE....anyone have any ideas on something else to try?

i been home sick with pneumonia since tuesday, and im hoping maybe i just am not thinking straight and theres a simple answer.

and merry christmas to all....i hope your holidays are filled with love and joy and peace.

Uninstall, restart the computer, and then reinstall the program.

I have found that AOL conflicts with other sites at times, or if you used IE while connected to AOL.

Right now my problem is IE and Collarme dont like each other and refused to recognise my login and password, but going to Firefox no problem.

Go figure

AOL software has been among the worst for a long time. It hogs memory, in fact takes over some of the memory management done normally by the OS. Every AOL software user is a beta tester. Notice every version of their software is a point 0.

I had that problem, AOL would work for chat, IM, email, but the internal browser couldn't get anything on the web. When I tried to reload the software it crashed the OS HARD, I had to reload video and audio drivers afterward.

After I was forced to upgrade to XP I reloaded AOL 7.0, YES 7.0, and it is fine now. I still don't use their browser, but it works. The ony quirk is that every time I start AOL it says "Updating AOL database", while it only used to do that if it was not shut down properly, like if you lost power while the software was running. Now it does it all the time but also, it only takes a few seconds. I can live with that.

I really only use AOL for mail and FTP these days. Forget about their crappy little browser. The only time it gets used is if I get a link in an email, and even then, if I like what I see I will save the mail as new. Then I go to aol.com using the real browser and open it from there, or bookmark it.

Age old problem with AOL. Best thing to do is not make them your ISP, and set it to connect through the real ISP. From what I hear now it can be free for email, but I pay the ten bucks and I use the FTP as well. And I use it. Even when the internal browser was screwed up, FTP worked. And right now I got so much in there I guess I'll keep paying the ten bucks. But I have no other use for their software.

Yes, AOL mail is free now. I've recently left AOL as my ISP, but was able to keep all screen names with mail... free of charge.

I gotta say though, even though I also upgraded my PC and installed DSL at the same time I left AOL, my former AOL mail was a hell of a lot faster to open and negotiate.

i found a disc i had to reload aol and decided to one more time try the clear cache, clean my disc, defrag, and reboot......for now it is working.

i have to say, i have had less problems from it since going to dsl, and at least now, when it sucks, rather than calling habib and cussing him, i smile and say well youre getting what you pay for.

If you're using AOL for highspeed Internet, it's probably a problem with your firewall.  Make sure AOHell is allowing the right ports to connect.
