Shame, shame, shame!! Even in Morocco, an Islamic country (with a 1% Christian and Jewish population) have females working at every level including high in the Parlimentary government and still I have never ever seen written such a load of shite there.

This is part of what angers me so about Western Cultures, which I was raised in, as in most older cultures (not saying all) women happen to be revered as the bearers of life. Nothing is thought of seeing a pregnant woman doing anything which she chooses to do. I do not speak of radical Islamic countries as Morocco is far too open and tolerant for what happens there. In fact, those countries call Morocco ''not Islamic enough.''

Perhaps also people have forgotten what pregnant women had to do during the settlement of this country away from the East Coast. While I see women as anything but weak, I am also not a femi-nazi. I'd much rather be home right now in Morocco or Spain writing my books and column and repairing computers at home than what I am doing for work right now in the US until March.

**edited to add: There is nothing here between the lines to read nor am I saying much of anything that isn't already clearly written here. Sorry folks, though I tire of quotes being taken out of context.

Apart from the keyword burkha this thread has nothing to do with Muslims and I don't believe you read any of it oh Evil one.

Perhaps you need to go back and re-read her post. She is completely eloquent in her explanation of her feelings on pregnant women and work.

Luscious: you make good points except this one
quote:

Do you really think us weak woman really want to work outside the home?
Feminists have told us for years that women are capable, independant  and in the extreme dont really need men
The serious side of this thread , and you acknowledge it, shows  that argument is false.

Women are capable and independent - and dont really need men. Same as men can get by without women. Seems a boring and unsatisfactory state of affairs in both cases though.

Thing is, women and men tend in most cases to like one another and this is indeed fortunate for procreative purposes, in that the raising of a child requires a lot of time and human resources if the job is to be accomplished satisfactorarily. Indeed, for the ideal circumstances it would seem that a wider team effort on the part of extended family and the community too is required.

The problem we have is that we find ourselves in a competitive market economy, where women are required by virtue of market forces to work - and this far and above is a stronger influence than any feminist agenda requiring women to in some way prove themselves as providers. These market forces have been present for a long time before feminist agendas.

The fact that women can become pregnant is fortunate for the continuation of our species, but the equally present fact that pregnancy and raising a child is a time consuming activity alongside the fact that women in today's world must work if they are to provide a home for that child, even where the father is present, is where we are going wrong.

And we make an even greater mistake to assume that the problem is that women can get pregnant and that if they do, then that is their silly fault and they deserve to be disposed of when it comes to employment - because like it or not, we are all in this together and the effects of such thinking are all around us right now. Our falling birth rates are what is driving immigration - we need immigrants because we dont have enough people because we produced a competitive market economy in which women couldnt afford to take time to produce children - and of those children that have been produced, we see a significant proportion bereft of any sort of responsibility for themselves embarking on lives of crime from an early age, which could be attributed to this whole poor state of affairs by way of the absence of their mothers from their lives, because the mothers are working because they have to.

We must understand, that being in this together, the pregnancy of women and their unique role in raising children is not an economic inconvenience, but a vital and essential part of being in this together for the long term. Thus, it is right and necessary that we provide rights to women - privileges even - for doing what is an essential job in our society. That, or learn Polish really quickly.

I read it and I've read many similar ones by her. They have a certain 'why do you keep picking on Muslims sentiment to them.' Oh no they used the word burkha in a derogatory way let me go and type something, I’m so upset bla bla bla .

Sorry m'dear, but the post to my mind was written from the perspective of someone from a Muslim environment, and was relevant to the point of the thread and provided an interesting perspective too.

Evil Genie: I never said a word about limiting female aspiration simply because they are female. I pointed out accurately that in an advanced competitive economy a major problem exists with those aspirations. ie pregnancy
So. you are reading between the lines. OK ?

Thats not what her post is about. If she feels the need to ask why people pick on muslims, its her perogative. She didnt say that in the post. She just commented on the difference in the treatmant of pregnant women in Morraco vs, the US.

...Not to mention the fact the the same provisions under the FMLA would be in effect if it were a "Mr" Rep. or a "Mr" Sen. who's wife was pregnant.

BTW: for people who do not live in the USA the FMLA ( Family Medical Leave Act) provides  eligible employees up to a total of 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons:
  • for the birth and care of the newborn child of the employee;
  • for placement with the employee of a son or daughter for adoption or foster care;
  • to care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) with a serious health condition; or
  • to take medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition.

That means that a male employee has the ability to take those same 12 weeks off for new fatherhood.

They all follow the same pattern and I don’t even know what any of this had to do with Muslim nations vs. the western world.

Maybe you’d like to ask her what comments people made here contained the most ‘shite’. I really don’t judge people on one post but rather a pattern of posts.

Thats the problem. YOU ARE JUDGING? Why?
Isnt everyone entitled to an opinion without you thinking they are bad? So what if she feel s that way? How does it impact you ?
When i see a load of shit in any government i will comment on it too. So she feels strongly that most muslim, BUT NOT ALL, treat women better than the the US does. Shes probably right? But so what. She is entitled to any opinion she wants without her personhood being attacked. Just as you are afforded the same entitlements.

Seeks, this is getting confusing.
Now what is the question?
And are you going to Prague with Lady E?

Women give bith and healthy society creates good conditions for it. I believe putting women in bhurka and shielding them from outaside influences is related to it. Europe countries provide much more benefits than North American contries to women going through pregnancy and childbirth. "Pro life" propaganda as just a rethoric is not worth much.
As an unrelated note I have seen creative use of bhurka in dom/slave scene for public play in Vancouver.

Yes I’m judging her, and? I judge everyone and they judge me. Your caps lock appears to be malfunctioning I’d get that looked at. It’s not against the law to have negative opinions about someone. Most here have negative opinions about George Bush, does it make any difference that he doesn’t come here and look at them? If people don’t like my opinions of others, guess what...I don’t care.
