lol...I always find any discussion of capes and tights funny. But seriously, a cool thread and one thing I thought I would throw into the mix. I agree that its dangerous to get caught up in seeking (or desperately wanting) the approval of a third party...or the bdsm "scene" in general...however you would define it. But I do think that like most things, this attitude taken to an extreme is as dangerous as the negative it is trying to counteract. Personally I like to listen to and consider a lot of different opinions and views, but I weigh them very differently depending on how much I respect the person and what I believe are their "qualifications." Just because someone has access to the internet and posts something definitely doesn't make them (or me for that matter) any kind of expert but that doesn't mean they have nothing to say worth letting rattle around in my brain for a minute or two. I think we all have to be our own people and make our own decisions and be responsible for them. But, I don't think thats the same thing as being an island unto yourself kind of a deal where you exist in a vaccum especially if you are talking about issues of safety or health etc. Just my random thoughts on an interesting thread.

I'd like to Thank everyone who took the time to post something here. I learned something new about myself that I need to work on changing.. that before reading this post I wasn't able to articulate. See self Mastery.. always being aware of yourself and if you find something that you don't like about yourself be able and willingly to figure out how to fix it, then put one foot infront of the other and make the change.

It's a good question, and of course self-mastery is important in the vanilla world too. The reason why (some) BDSM people stress self-mastery that D's makes themselves responsible for s's in a way that vanillas rarely match in their world, and the thought is that D's can't be capable of mastering s's unless they've mastered themselves first. quote: ORIGINAL: CuriousLord What does it mean to "Master" one's self?
