"George W. Bush and Hillary Clinton top Gallup's list of people whom Americans most admire."

I fear that such a result might say more about the majority of the American population than anything else.

Dont forget that at this point in his life Bush who admittedly lacks a certain verbal fluency, tho' it has not always been so, is likely to be judged on what he actually does in an administrative sense.

To decide to rid the world of a homocidal lunatic, even for mistaken reasons, is no bad thing. IMO.
Were it not for Islamic fundamentalists, who hate everythin the West stands for, Bush would be considered a hero IMO.

Sanity -> RE: Most Admired Man in World 2007: GW Bush (12/26/2007 4:08:09 PM)

It's funny how the guy in the Gallup video is practically apologizing for what they found, how he has to explain the results. It's also funny that some people can't just deal with reality - anything that challenges their previously held belief system has to be denied.

The title of the thread is a little (or should I say a lot) misleading, it should read most admired in the USA, not in the world, but then some people in this country are myopic enough to believe Americans are the only people in the world who matter, probably the same ones that admire GW

Where do they come up with this shit?
Who admires "politicians" anyway?
Are they polling "political science" majors at community colleges or something?  (future waiters and waitresses)
Personally I admire Firefighters and Military people. Oh, and Doctors and Nurses.

I'm afraid you may be correct.

That's just downright scary.  And not just half of it, either.

By removing Hussein, Bush BECAME a homocidal lunatic. Whose governance has killed more Iraqis, Hussein PRE INVASION, or Bush POST INVASION?

And Bush destroying America's Economy would disqualify him in any event. Your dollar is WORTH LESS than when he entered office.

I can see the poll now: OF THESE PEOPLE, WHO DO YOU ADMIRE MOST?

A) Hitler
B) Stalin
C) Clinton
D) Bush

You see things that way, I dont. The disaster in Iraq has been caused by Islamic fundamentalists killing first other Islamic fundamentalists and then Iraquis and when all else fails Yanks/Brits.
Had that totally unpredictable situation not occurred  I think, indeed am certain, that Bush would be seen in a different light.
I bet 95% of Iraquis just want to "get on with their lives" as was the case with the majority in Ireland when a minority of psychopaths  went on a killing spree.

Sanity -> RE: Most Admired Man in World 2007: GW Bush (12/27/2007 4:32:40 AM)

Seeks is right. You're blaming President Bush for the killing of Muslims by Muslims, just because you hate President Bush. Our soldiers are there to enforce the peace, yet you're effectively calling them babykillers because it suits your political agenda.

The economy would be much worse had the Reverend Al Gore got in. He would have banned the automobile and anything else that used power in order to please his Earth god, thus destroying the economy. Al-qaeda would have attacked had Gore been the President, as well - I think you're assuming that Al Gore would have done nothing in response.

You're assuming a whole lot of things, and living in a made up world.

And for DECADES, Hussein was able to keep the Islamic Fundamentalists suppressed. How many people did Hussein need to kill to obtain that result?

Since Bush's Occupation began, how many people did Bush let die?

And BUSH isn't even able to keep the order that Hussein was, so it's not *really* an accurate comparison until Bush gets the place under control ( which can't happen, but we should be clear about the preconditions of our comparison. )

The 1200 year old Sunni/Shia war was totally unpredictable? Maybe to an ignoramus like Bush.

You're way off the mark here. I'm blaming Bush for permitting the formerly suppressed crazies in Iraq to take control.

I do, however, call the soldiers who rape and murder children -- child rapists and child murderers.

I am unsure if the US retains any Honor or Integrity until the deaths of innocents by people acting in the name of the US are brought to justice. You are free to disagree with what Justice is in this case. I believe the punishment for rapists and murderers should be hanging. Others might believe that a few months in prison is sufficient.

I don't know why you brought the IMAGINARY event of a Gore Presidency into the mix, but the *REALITY* is that the dollar in your pocket is WORTH LESS than it was when Bush took office.

If you disagree, then I guess you're not buying Milk, Eggs, Gasoline, Natural Gas, Electricity or anything else whose exchange is denominated in dollars.

"Most admired man in the world, by Americans".

Feel free to take pot shots. Par for course.

Wouldn't it sort of stand to reason that the most admired people, would be those with exposure on the national level?

I'm sure we all have people we admire more ... teachers, authors, parents, etc ... but would any of them have enough exposure to win an award like this?
