NewKnotTyer -> Question for the rope savvy. (12/27/2007 7:49:41 AM)

So far Ive aquired, thanks be to walmart and home depot, what i think is a decent collection of rope for myself (being new to this). As it stands, I have the following
all poly and nylon:
2 x 15ft. 1/4in.
2 x 25ft. 3/8in.
100ft. 3/8in
50ft. 5/16in
15ft. 5/8in
30ft. 5/8in
25ft. real thin camping line for hair corsets, etc.

Am I missing any must haves? Any suggestions on what to get next? Im thinking about some shorter lengths for binding wrists/ankles.

It's nice to have several of the short pieces. I'd recommend a few more in 15 and 30 ft lengths, especially if you're into any bed bondage. Sometimes (and I speak from the "being tied up" perspective) having all of that extra rope leftover can get...uncomfortable. Not all bondage requires big pieces, and nothing kills the moment more than having about 20 feet of rope trailing behind you. [:'(]

...  but there's a snag, you see.  Due to bad planning, it's in three-inch lengths.  So it's not very useful.

Thanks! Most of what I do involes the bed, or when im feeling frisky, my truck.  Good to have a "being tied up" perspective.  My gf likes the look/feel of a lot of rope on her skin, soi always have many wraps and big visual knots, which she enjoys. I agree, though, it gets kinda old having to work with all that excess rope even though she really gets off on feeling it move and watching me work.

On a side note, the other day I had her lie on the bed so i could try out a spur of the moment idea. We normally dont talk and just have music going so her not saying anything isnt out of the ordinary; what caught my attention was that she wasnt even on the same planet as I was.  We are both new to this together and Im wondering if its possible that she slipped into sub-space, or some manner of, just from me tying the knots?  (also the most rope Ive used on her at once, probably 100ft. or so all told)
Afterward she had a coming down period similar to when shes just gotten off, was exhausted, and said she was aroused, but that the feeling was deep in her stomach and chest.  Any ideas?

Thanks again!

Jason

My best guess is, ummm, HELL YES!  Particularly if it took more than a few minutes.  But did you ask her?  Could she not decide herself later?

If shes new to the sensation, she might not have known it was necessarily subspace either. When you are learning, you'll be surprised what little triggers can get you there. For Fox, its a spot on the back of his head that I scratch.  For Angel, it is bieng hushed...
So tying knots can absolutely get someone in subspace pretty quickly.

And from personal experience, 5 foot bits of rope are very useful. I keep those around for simple bondage as opposed to my longer ropes for themore ornate stuff.  My knot tying abilities are... lacking. However I know I can fasten someone somewhere with a shorter length without having to worry aout haign it hanging anywhere and getting caught, tugged or inadvertantly tightened more than i want it.

Oh, by the way... have it tried it without music? Or with music on very softly?  It occurred to me that she could be missing a very sensual part of rope... the sound.  The sound of the rope as it slips past another piece of rope, as you pull it through a loop, that kind of a soughing sound like the whisper of the wind as it stirs the autumn leaves on the trees, gaining in intensity as the speed increases.

DV

I noticed your concern about overtightning if the rope gets caught. There is a very simple knot that You can grab the hanging bits and yank as hard as possible and it will not tighten around the wrists, ankles, etc. I do not know the name of the knot or I would post a hyperlink to instructions. I will attempt to give instructions, but I am not so good at explaining without physical demonstration.

Drape the rope over your wrists so that the center is between them. Rotate your forearms away from your body (counter clockwise for your left hand clockwise for your right) and below the section of rope between your hands. Repeat twice (three total rotations) Take the loops from around your wrists and put them together. slide that double loop over the sub's hand. You will have two hanging bits grab those and pust the bunched up parts of the rope towards your subs wrists. Tighten to desired tightness. To loosen the knot pull the loop at the end of the knot away from the wrist.

I am hoping that someone knows what I am talking about and will post better instuctions. Sorry for the thread hijack.

Another hint those indoor and outdoor climbing places  can only use their ropes for so many hours , then they have to get rid of them .If you go in and ask for the expired ropes that are still in good condition you can get your collection growing faster  at a very reasonable rate .Try the larger stores like cabellas ,bass pro shops , army surplus stores too .Twisted monk has some amazing stuff aswell .try adding  some jute and hemp and cotton too .

That is the same knot, I learned to tie it a different way. Thanks for posting Hungry.

MisPandora -> RE: Question for the rope savvy. (12/27/2007 7:44:14 PM)

Yes, you're missing hemp rope.  Once you use it, you'll not want to go back to synthetic.

NewKnotTyer -> RE: Question for the rope savvy. (12/27/2007 9:11:14 PM)

Im thinking im in bad need of a rope fix too, after reading all this! where to start....
CalifChick - i did, but since thats the first time it had happened, neither of us were sure. Though thinking on it, i do believe it did.  It took about a half hour, it was a rare occurance where we werent on a time constraint, so I really took my time and was very deliberate with everything

DV - She and I are both very physical, affectionate people, so just the feel of rope touching her is bothersome in that delicious way!  I was kinda bummed it didnt progress from there, but it almost seemed like making it sexual would have taken away from the gravity of the moment? I was thinking along the same lines for 5 or 6 ft. I may cut up my 100ft. and make more smaller lengths.

CalifChick part deaux - I actually did not think of that at all! Thats a great idea, we usually have music going, lately azam ali.  I think shed really get off on that.  Youve forced me into having to experiment....![;)]

azropedntied - dont know if i have a place like that in town, but its worth looking into. I love monk, cut my teeth on his videos.  Actually saving up to buy the more than curious kit and the gift box thing.  with jute and cotton, what makes them worth having individually?

Dolce -> RE: Question for the rope savvy. (12/27/2007 11:25:59 PM)

I'm rather fond of Twisted Monk and some of his instructional videos. I've had to deal with some after-injury flexibility restrictions, and his version of the hog-tie was SO much easier on my back, shoulder, and wrists! I also like the body harness, as it alleviated those pesky "knots down the back" that I hated to lay on.

OldBastardly1 -> RE: Question for the rope savvy. (12/28/2007 6:04:00 AM)

Something I did and found helpful ( you might have already done this ). I use embroidery thread and lash the ends of my ropes. I color-code the different lengths which makes it easier to find the length I want and to remind me which rope is which. It also keeps the rope from fraying.

LadyRope -> RE: Question for the rope savvy. (12/28/2007 7:25:13 AM)

if you double your ropes,in other words, fold rope over evenly to form a bite..(the middle part of the rope after its folded)....when you tie with doubled lines you are then able to "lock" off a knot so that it wont get tighter..in my opinion ,its not about how tight, infact tight means little, its more about placement of the rope that actually secures the person, even if you are doing a single limb tie...its also far easier to tie with shorter peices,ie 10ft or 15 ft,,so in my opinion I would add a few more 10 ft pieces in 6mm....as for sub space, its a wonderful thing...sometimes when I am tiying and getting right into it,a rope scene can last for 20 min,and in that time my partner (s) have flown off...I bring them back when I bring out the candles, nothing sexier than rope bondage and wax play...Goods luck to you and your lady, from one rigger to another....

peppermint -> RE: Question for the rope savvy. (12/28/2007 1:42:30 PM)

Nylon looks nice, ties nice...but very slippery and stretches.  Flexible people get out of nylon pretty quickly.  Heck...at 53 i could easily pull at the nylon for a few minutes and get it stretched enough to get loose.

I'll agree with MisPandora...hemp is the way to go.  It costs more but worth every penny.

Amadio -> RE: Question for the rope savvy. (12/28/2007 7:34:05 PM)

I keep the following amounts of rope in my kits. They are designed for suspension, but very useful in bed too.

2pc- 8'
2pc- 12'
2pc- 15'
6pc- 25'
2pc- 35'
1pc- 45'
1pc- 55'

Kit 1- 6mm hemp (conditioned myself from raw)
Kit 2- 8mm hemp (Helios project rope)
Kit 3- 5/16 braided Nylon (rainbowrope.com)

LunaticDesign -> RE: Question for the rope savvy. (2/3/2008 8:43:21 PM)

personally I'd cut down the 100' piece... I can't think of anything I can use a 100' of rope on that I couldn't do faster with several shorter ropes

I have in my kit
8 - 5-8' - 1/4" twisted nylon ropes (they're for those times when you just need a small chunk of rope)
4- 10' - 3/8" twisted nylon ropes (ankles and wrists)
2- 15' - 3/8" solid braid nylon rope
4- 25' - 3/8" solid briad nylon rope
3- 30' - 3/8" (1 twisted, 1 braided) nylon rope
1- 50' - 3/8" twisted nylon rope
3- 5' - 1 1/4" hickory (sp?) rods for bondage
and I have about 2 milk crates full of rope I haven't sorted in for ever.
