Are you exactly the same person you were five years ago? Could the person you were five years ago understand the different stresses and life experiences that you have today? Ten years ago?

As you can see, at your age a few years brings about huge changes. So when someone who ten years ago was playing with Barbies now announces that they know everything, we do laugh because we remember how things have changed enormously in that short period of time.

5 years ago yes, 10 years ago no, but I wasn't playing with barbies 10 years ago, I was shooting people in video games.. does blowing barbies UP count? *giggles*

I understand that people do come off as know it alls, but even older people act like they know it all, they are older and wiser, and obviously know more then me.. right?  And, I appreciate their wisdom, their feedback and hearing about their life experiences, I can choose to learn from other people's mistakes instead of deliberately making the same ones I could avoid just by learning from others or asking...

I do agree that many young people act like they "know it all"... but so do older people, the only difference in that is many older people will admit they act that way while the younger generation is still in denial --

emma, stopping this rant of yours while you're a head might be the wisest thing you've done in this thread.

Quite frankly, I'm about to turn 23, I've been attending events of varying sorts since I was 19 and I've never had anyone make an issue out of my age. Ever. My owner is about a year older than me and we starting going to a group regularly roughly six months ago who are mostly comprised of people older than us. No one has ever made an issue out of his age - except for once or twice online by "dominants" who were trying to convince me that he was a child and I should abandon him in favor of, guess who, them. Somehow, I think their opinions were a little biased.

I'm starting to think that as soon as people my age start dropping the issue there will stop being an issue. Those with experience will have that experience shine through - those who don't will either be respected for being respectful and willing to learn or will be grouped into that same pathetic group as the 50 year olds who have never touched a whip but think they know everything because they are 50.

Just a different perspective....

To the best of my knowledge, I have never raised my age as an issue and still experienced problems.  Maybe it's because I look a couple years younger than I am, but there some people who seem uncomfortable or are downright rude to me, based on my age.  Even though those people didn't keep me from enjoying myself or learning something new, I prefer TNGs for that reason.  I think it does happen somewhat regularly, but it's really great that there are groups where it is far from the norm.

Whereas, at my advanced age of 35, when I say "I am Master bow before me," they line up to oblige.

If a younger person ( 18- 25)  comes across as a"I am Master bow before me" or "I'm a no limits slave" attitude then they will not be taken seriously.
