Can i get a copy of the curriculum?  Do i have to actually own a dictionary and thesarus??

For a private tutorial, I believe I can provide all the requisite materials. Chalkboard, rope, canes, dunce cap, unabridged OED, paper and pencil. I'll see about writing up a prospectus for you.

plushiecat -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/2/2008 2:17:03 PM)

P/people T/that T/type L/like T/this M/make M/me W/want T/to C/commit H/homicide.  There's NO need for it.  Capitalising pronouns doesn't make you 'more dominant', it just makes you look more arrogant.  De-capping doesn't make you look 'more submissive', it makes you look silly.  I have often wondered about those that go into a chat room and type 'Hello A/all' if they go into a room in realtime and say "Hello capital A All and hello lowercase a all"

Suleiman -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/2/2008 2:20:56 PM)

I/i/I/i/I/i'm fairly sure P/people like T/that for the most part D/don't have places in the R/real W/world to go to and S/say T/that sort of thing. I/i/I/i/I/i could be W/wrong, of course...

sweetwenchie -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/2/2008 2:28:17 PM)

Doesn't that make your fingers hurt?? [8|]

Suleiman -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/2/2008 2:35:39 PM)

Y/y/Y/y/Y/y/Y/y/Y/yes... but I think it's funny as hell... you know, there could be something to this. You can E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/e/E/extend the line of slashes to show hopw very switchy you're feeling at the moment, and arrange the order of the c/Caps to show whether you're in d/Dom or S/sub mode. A/a/A/a/A/a/A/a/A/a/A/a/A/and if we all started doing it, maybe it would annoy the domlydom types who demand this sort of thing into not insisting on it as a P/p/P/p/P/p/P/p/P/protocol. We could cure this rash of bad grammar by lampooning it out of existance. Laughter, they say, is the best contraceptive after all.

Fnordstrum -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/2/2008 8:33:51 PM)

Heh, all those slashes make me think of Porky Pig from good old Looney Toons.

S/s/S/s/S/s/S/s/So, hm.

The protocal is dumb. How many people stick to it though?

And "doms" who insist on it, are just plain dumb.

twistedwillow -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/3/2008 8:44:14 AM)

When I first joined the site ... my first foray into BDSM, outside my bedroom.
I did the whole A\all Y\you thing it lasted about a week, then I went ahh fuck it... too damn lazy to bother with that.
Same way I no long call a dom\me  sir or ma'am automatically. I'm polite to everyone but not everyone is my dom.

As for the whole  i, I thing, I make a concious effort to write I rather than i, because I'm just being lazy by typing i.

sweetwenchie -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/3/2008 10:31:50 AM)

ooooohhhh boy, well your fingers might not be sore, but my eyes certainly are! ;-)

JoinUsforaeve -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/3/2008 11:09:37 AM)

Personally,
i fail to see how capitalising works for some? If that sort of salutation floats yer boat, good for you.

But its like some huge 'club' where someone else has written rules about how i should behave, speak, etc etc.  There is even a chapter on 3rd person speak for the serious contenders to inane rules. For me, i like life by our rules, they work for us. Capitalising, really doesnt cut it for either of us. Who came to bdsm way before we came to the internet.
I find in a world of face to face contact, with others willing to get off the pc and into the experience, capitals dont exist, well, you cant actually adress someone in capitals can you? That's more your written form i guess. For those who like their bdsm in written form. Personally, i prefer to live my bdsm experiences in vivo.

BiteGirl -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/4/2008 2:09:50 AM)

Mmm... So, so far we have established that it is bullshit. I already knew, but there is nothing for switches which is both good and bad, good because we can just ignore the bullshit. Bad because the people who do it are also the people who think "switches dont exist" and have so much negative stuff about switches, so if you broke that one, the b/B/b/B/b/Bullshit thing, then you could probably break the general bullshit and negativity about swithes, or is this too much to hope for?

Sagiwah -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/4/2008 9:35:41 AM)

Let's just cap some random letter (or two) in the middle and call it even. [:D]

Like sagIwah or something. *shot*

Suleiman -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/4/2008 12:28:03 PM)

But if we get rid of all the bullshit, where will all the pretty roses get their fertilizer? More to the point, if the idiots attain enlightenment, how am I supposed to feel good about myself? The only reason I don't get called on my bullshit on an hourly basis is because there are so many bulls crapping in the field.

That's just another reason that the whole capitalization idea is foolish.

IMO: It's not foolish at all.
When a sub uses lower case when in emailing or especially while in an instant message chat it clearly communicates that they are being respectful, willing to submit to the domme they are communicating with and it is a very nice protocol. One I like and appreciate.
For switches, well I think they should do what they feel like and what works for them, just like everybody else.

To each their own......

It could force you to get higher standards? [:D] Lol. I don't know, but if you think it's bullshit, why let it continue, if it annoys you so damn much?

That made me laugh.
I should go into the Dom or Sub (SEE! BOTH CAPS!) forums, and do it, and see if anyone bags me...

while i will switch to caps if i'm communicating with a dom/me if i'm feeling more submissive it concerns me if a dom/me thinks they have to have some silly protocol to demand respect, and i'm not sure i see how it applies to a willingness to submit.

frankly i think it just looks silly, and as for ma'am and sir the only reason i do it is i was raised military and i was taught to. and i don't capitalize anything simply because i'm lazy lol, you don't stand a chance in grad school if you truly butcher grammer to that extent lol.

SoulPiercer -> RE: C/c/C/c/C/c/C/c/Capitals in regards to switches (1/6/2008 5:42:29 PM)

I was kicked out of a CollarMe chatroom once because a Channel Op felt I was being disrespectful to the dominants in the channel.

Why?

Because when I entered the channel I would type out: Hello everyone.

The Channel Op pointed out to me (which I already knew but refuse to adhere to) that by not typing E/everyone I was not greeting the dominants.

Hilarious!

As I explained to said Channel Op: The internet is a form of communication. I communicate here just as I do when I meet people in person.

When I arrive at a community function, I speak the words: "Hello, everyone."

I do not say: "Hello, Capital e slash lower case e veryone."

I won't type in all caps because the net geeks from ancient times say that is akin to yelling.

However, I will not participate in the caps for doms and lower case for subs debacle, because, well .. it's GOOFY!

I particularly like something a friend of mine exclaimed at one point when I was trying to explain this whole idiotic convention. She answered, "Any jackass who is unable to parse out the language as given to us by God and Oxford is unworthy of my attentions!"
