CalliopePurple -> Songs That Make You Cry (8/23/2005 4:56:14 AM)

How many songs have the ability to make you cry, depending on the mood you're in? There are too many to mention for me, so I'm just gonna post the lyrics to the two my Winamp decided to play moments ago. Their subject matter, given recent events in my life, is rather fitting.

I was walking home from school on a cold winter's day
Took a shortcut through the woods and I lost my way
It was getting late and I was scared and alone
Then a kind old man took my hand and led me home
Mama couldn't see him, but he was standing there
But I knew in my heart, he was the answer to my prayers

Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love

When life dealt troubled times and had me down on my knees
There's always been someone to come along and comfort me
A kind word from a stranger to lend a helping hand
A phone call from a friend just to say I understand
Ain't it kind of funny at the dark end of the road
Someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope

Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love

They wear so many faces
Show up in the strangest places
Grace us with thier mercy
In our time of need

Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love
~ Alabama - Angels Among Us

One hand
Reaches out
And pulls a lost soul from harm
While a thousand more go unspoken for
They say what good have you done
By saving just this one
It's like whispering a prayer
In the fury of a storm

And I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

This heart
Still believes
The love and mercy still exist
While all the hatred rage and so many say
That love is all but pointless in madness such as this
It's like trying to stop a fire
With the moisture from a kiss

And I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

As long as one heart still holds on
Then hope is never really gone

I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world we know
Never changes me

What I do is so
This world will know
That it will not change me

Peter Gabriel's 'I Grieve'. I turned on the radio the day after my son died and it was playing. I haven't been able to listen to it since without crying, and it's been several years. It describes that numbness you feel after a death perfectly.

It was only one hour ago
It was all so different then
Nothing yet has really sunk in
Looks like it always did
This flesh and bone
is just the way that we are tied in
But there's no one home
I grieve...... for you
You leave....... me
So hard to move on
Still loving what's gone
They say life carries on
Carries on and on and on and on

The news that truly shocks
is the empty, empty page
While the final rattle rocks
it's empty, empty cage
and I can't handle this
I grieve....... for you
You leave....... me
Let it out and move on
Missing what's gone
They say life carries on
They say life carries on and on and on

Most don't unless my hormones are raging, and I feel out of sync for some reason (life things):
Everybody Hurts by REM
All I ask of You by Barbara Streisand

After the mess with the boy from Seattle, there are two that I can't listen to

One Thing by Eleven Finger (I think)

And I can't remember the name of the other, but the part that always gets me is:

I can't help you fix yourself
but at least I can say I tried
I'm sorry but I've got to get on with my own life

junecleaver -> RE: Songs That Make You Cry (8/23/2005 7:11:58 AM)

That's Scars by Papa Roach.

Anytime I'm in a mall or elevator and hear a Muzak version of a rock song I like.

Isolde -> RE: Songs That Make You Cry (8/23/2005 7:13:33 AM)

My Lady D'Arbanville, by Cat Stevens...always and forever...but I still have to listen.

Thanks, I thought that's the band, but didn't want to attribute it to the wrong group by mistake and I couldn't for the life of me remember the title ...

I might be getting better about that song now though. When I was out the other night with a guy from work (not the one from before, for those who remember that story) that song came on while we were sitting in his car. He asked me what was wrong, I told him I cry every time I hear that song, so he turned it off and held me for a bit. It was really sweet.

Gah, "Scars" makes me think about my ex-pet because of the same lines that you quoted. Pretty much anything Led Zeppelin brings to mind my first girlfriend and I could rattle on forever about songs I have associated with people, but I'm sure that would bore everyone and I'm just a little too hyperactive for my own good at the moment.

The Washington Redskins "Hail to the Redskins", when they score...cuz I hate em!

Open Arms by Journey

Go There with You by Steven Curtis Chapmen

Tears in Heven by Clapton

The musical Score to Last of the Mohicans

The Chistmass Music by Mainheim Steam Roller

Rob Thomas is one hell of a singer. His music along with Match Box 20 brings out many of my emotions and past experiences. "I will" and "Mad Season" especially

Long December by the Counting Crows

Where ever you go, Whatever you do, I'll always be right here waiting for you

That country song "Dont Take the Girl"

Everything I do I do it for you by Brian Adams

Secret Ambition by Michale W Smith

CC and BB Weinen the brother ans sister performers have made some great songs together over the years.

Time in a Bottle by Jim Grossci

Save the Best For Last by Vanessa Williams.

These are just a few songs that have brought out tears and emotions from within me. Some of joy and some of sadness and depending on the moment which I am in. Some where just so good you coudn't help but feel the emotion comming from the performer or the music as I'm empathitic to peoples meanings.

"I'm already there"

I flip the radio dial every time that song comes on because it always makes me cry.

quote:

THE OTHER WOMAN

The other woman finds time to manicure her nails
The other woman is perfect where her rival fails
And she's never seen with pin curls in her hair

The other woman enchants her clothes with French perfume
The other woman keeps fresh cut flowers in each room
There are never toys that's scattered everywhere

And when her baby comes to call
He'll find her waiting like a lonesome queen
Cos when she's by his side
It's such a change from old routine

But the other woman will always cry herself to sleep
The other woman will never have his love to keep
And as the years go
by the other woman
Will spend her life
alone

Walking After Midnight (remake)
Donn Hecht, Alan Block

Sung by Patsy Cline

I go out walkin after midnight,
Out in the moonlight, just like we used to do,
I'm always walkin after midnight searchin for you ~
I walk for miles along the highway,
Well, that's just my way of sayin "I love you,"
I'm always walkin after midnight searchin for you ~
I stop to see a weepin willow cryin on his pillow,
Maybe he's cryin for me ~
And as the skies turn gloomy, night winds whisper to me,
I'm lonesome as I can be...
I go out walkin after midnight,
Out in the moonlight, just hopin you may be
Somewhere a-walkin after midnight searchin for me.
I stop to see a weepin willow cryin on his pillow,
Maybe he's cryin for me ~
And as the skies turn gloomy, night winds whisper to me,
I'm lonesome as I can be...
I go out walkin after midnight,
Out in the moonlight, just hopin you may be
Somewhere a-walkin after midnight searchin for me!

"Forever Young" or "Landslide". But the one that never fails to break me down is "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. My Dad used to sing that to me when I was little to get me to fall asleep. Then, at my wedding a couple of months ago, I danced with him to that song. I was calm and collected until that moment. I broke down sobbing in my Daddy's arms like I was five again. And for one of the first times in my life, so did he. He whispered to me, "You'll always be my little girl." Now I can't even listen to the song. The sobbing starts instantly...in a good way, though.

RosaB -> RE: Songs That Make You Cry (8/23/2005 4:40:52 PM)

Watermark by Enya. There aren't any lyrics, but for some reason, if I'm sitting quietly and it comes on that music puts me in a place that causes me to think about my deceased sister and I ball and have to turn it off. But I do love me some Enya.
Also On My Way Home and Memory of trees and by Enya as well.

Of course that song that comes on during the Christmas holidays, I can't think of the name, but I'm sure most know it. The one where the boy wants to buy shoes for his dying mother.

Thanks for starting this thread, now I'm feeling sad. [:(]
Ahhhhhhh and then I hear "Don't Cry For Me Argentina"[:D]
