This topic reminds me of a discussion with Gregg Braden on youtube on the subject of emotional communication... not that he mentions it, I was wondering if computers actually set us back in our ability to use emotion (some call it ESP). Previous communications by messenger since the dark ages, later by carrier (mail) and recently to instant verbal/written communication by e-mail,chat..etc distract us from a deep personal ability to merely 'think-speak' in any given situation. Without all of these methods being used, would we/could we have had the potential to be taught to send cruitial or even average and everyday thoughts (of good or evil) by now? Is technology merely holding us back from this primitive, innate ability or is it a move forward in evolutionary processes? edit to add: He discusses how religions (of any kind) that came about began in order to refuse 'us' from direct access to the creator through thought, emotions and prayer (middleman theory, as I call it, or a direct stop in the link of true consciousness to such higher power that is possible within ourselves). Not that he said that directly (in part 6) but that is what I gathered from the general conversation.
