I am simply terrified of things that pose no threat. Oh my god is that an unloaded gun?!!! Is that a knife in your hand that you have no intention of using that you are rubbing on my body?...What a mind fuck!!! Are those glass eating spiders that you have put in that jar?!!!

Wow!

completenz -> RE: spider jar (1/6/2008 7:37:05 PM)

How 'bout a librarian who sells insurance on the side?

You have no idea what anyone does. You just assume the worst and go off without even asking.

I've seen people discuss "insect play" quite seriously on these boards. You may been joking but it's not assuming the worst at all to think you were serious.

Leatherist -> RE: spider jar (1/6/2008 7:44:02 PM)

Give it up-I've said all I will in the rest of this thread.

AquaticSub -> RE: spider jar (1/6/2008 7:46:52 PM)

Does that mean we can turn it into a discussion of recipes?

I'm thinking the real question here is:  If a scene is so lousy that I'm noticing spiders in a jar next to me, then it shouldn't be happening.  If a scene is great and I'm off in la-la land, I don't give a rat's ass what's in the room with me.

Next to your head during a scene-would it distract you terribly?

It's a hard limit for my sub to have a spider anywhere inside the house. That also applies to snakes and scorpians.

Leatherist -> RE: spider jar (1/6/2008 9:45:09 PM)

Fear is an interesting tool.

AquaticSub -> RE: spider jar (1/6/2008 9:56:34 PM)

I thought you were done with this thread.

Leatherist -> RE: spider jar (1/6/2008 9:57:38 PM)

I'm done with arguing over idiocy in this thread.

AquaticSub -> RE: spider jar (1/6/2008 10:04:14 PM)

Huh. That's not what you said the first time.

whew!  out of breath here, playing in traffic is hard work!  but the ticklies are gone now...thanks be!
(note...while i understand that playing in traffic is definitely dangerous and should be thought seriously about before doing, no spiders or bugs or other life forms were harmed in the process.)

I know my answer probably sounded flip and I hope no one with a spider phobia is  offended.
That is certainly not my intent.

I am not afraid of them but I understand many people are.

aJ

*hugs*  it wasnt offensive to me.  i know that not everyone has spider phobia, and that's ok...i know i do and avoid the creatures.

Some people take everything far too literally-and have no sense of humor. It's why I never date librarians and insurance salespeople. Dull dull dull...[:D]

Actually Naja is quite entertaining company - simply passionate about animals. Considering how many people don't think about insects in that manner, it's a interesting change of pace and a nice reminder that these are living creatures.

Course, I'm still scared to death of them.

i'll agree with the last bit.

at the same time...i have the truce with the spiders.  they have their place in the world, which is outside as far as i am concerned.  i've gotten a spider bite and had to have antibiotic treatment for the resulting infection.  as someone else stated, i never felt the bite....i just found the dead spider in my clothing.  *sighs*

the rule is this in the household:  when i scream that there is an 8-legged assasin, SOMEONE will come rescue me.  generally with a peanut butter jar, in which to contain the beast and remove it to outside.  which is where they belong.  not inside scaring the bejesus outta me.

kitten, still scared of them but agreeing that they absolutely have a place in the world, just not around me please

MissMorrigan -> RE: spider jar (1/7/2008 2:07:22 AM)

Here's the rub and something I have never quite understood. Tarantulas and spiders of similar size I have no problem with, infact, I like them and have handled them in the past. I even find the recluse spider a creature of beauty and yet, typical garden/house spiders make me jump especially either the 'wolf' type or squat short-legged black kind that tend to jump.

Ok.. little known freaky thing of mine...

When I was younger I lived next door to a guy who had a tarantula farm.. I used to lay on the floor and have him let them crawl all over me... I *loved* it.. it was soooo sooo nice.

I have had tarantulas myself.. and I adore the little babies.

I wouldnt mind being tied down.. and have a few climb over my naked body. As long as they were tame, and calm.
