References are pointless IMO.  How do you know that the s-types you are asking for a referals from are trustworthy?  You are asking a bunch of strangers to refer a stranger?
And posts like this are kind of known as trolling.  Which is why you aren't getting positive responses.  CM is used for finding a partner - play or other - CC is a discussion forum.

Have you tried attending a munch or is that not really your thing?  Personally, I really wouldn't go by references even from someone I know really well, but that's just me.  What might be great for one person may suck for me.

dark's advice is good advice, if you really can't bring yourself to walk in alone contact the group host beforehand. i hosted a munch here in southern cali and i relished the chance to make a newcomer feel welcome.

references i have mixed feelings on this. i think once you get out in your community, meet people, watch people play it will all fall into place for you.

I relate to how you feel hotty, I'm not into going to the local stuff alone. I know I can contact the board and/or organizers. I also know that the first meeting(s) would be far too much for me. I'm just not into being put on a platter and fed to people I don't know, metaphorically speaking.

If I had a Dom/partner and he took me, I could be okay with it. Until then, or perhaps not even then, I'll not be attending. It's not for everyone.
