Your thoughts on marijuana...

any society that can punish someone over marijuana more severely than a murderer is caught in the grip of a deep psychosis.  It is a bad case of reefer madness.  For too long the laws regarding marijuana have been based on racial prejudice, irrational fears, metaphors, symbolism and political expediency.  We need a marijuana policy that is calmly based on the facts.  An end to the war on marijuana will not come from Congress or the president, from the DEA, the police, the prisons, or the courts.  It will come from citizen activism and the ballot box.  It will come when ordinary people make their views known.  The government's behavior will not withstand public scrutiny for long.  This war is over, if you want it.

I do not consider marijuana a gateway drug.  It has not been so for me.  I had used alcohol way before I ever smoked a joint.  Why isn't alcohol considered a gateway drug?!

ravennfyre -> RE: Your stance on.. (1/9/2008 3:35:33 PM)

I've never smoked it... but I can roll, manicure, start from seed, cross-pollinate and harvest like a champ...

and that's all I'm willing to say about that.

Why arn't you my buddie *le sigh*

On another note something people who are reading this should consider, the ONLY reason weed is a gateway drug is becuase of the dealers you have to get it from. Legalize it and you jsut dont have to be involed in those circles.

Reason #100 why it should be legalized

LaTigresse -> RE: Your stance on.. (1/9/2008 3:46:32 PM)

I vote for legalization. Now I am kinda wishing I wasn't in this, painfully herb empty, town. We have some really over zealous, law enforcement running around here anymore...

Man join the club. Mind you Im empty mostly becuase I know so few people becuase I've just moved here.

Im really debating starting a bdsm/420 club here on collarme or a site or something. Who knew so many alternative lifestyles could go hand in hand.

Put 420 to be legal in your profiles, spread the word <3

God woman, if you weren’t already spoken for... I just hope he appreciates what he’s got.

It is silly that marijuana is not legalized. How often do you hear of a stoner mugging someone to get their next fix, or getting all belligerent and picking fights because they are stoned? If I was a cop I would want marijuana legalized and alcohol banned.

The history of marijuana use in America predates the colonial era when....

...

... what?

Oh man, I got the munchies.

This may be an urban myth but I once heard of a small town that busted a U-haul truck stuffed with marijuana as it passed through town. The local police (all two of them) decided to dispose of the evil weed by piling it up just outside of town and setting it on fire. The wind blew the smoke in the direction of the town and... well, you can figure out the rest.

samboct -> RE: Your stance on.. (1/9/2008 6:31:45 PM)

I'm definitely in the legalize it and tax it crowd.  People could grow their own tabbaccy too, and some folks have made moonshine, so if we accept the taxes on these substances, why not marijuana?

I've tried the stuff over the years- doesn't do anything fun for me- I hack too much- don't deal well with smoke and truth be told, prefer a good scotch anyhow.

My recollection of how pot became illegal is that it dates back to the 30s (late 20s?) and is tied in with the establishment of the FBI who needed something to do, since alkool tabbaccy and popguns was a different agency.  (I think that was true back then too.)  If you're going to make something illegal- you need to demonize it, hence propaganda films like Reefer Madness although I think most people bellyached that they must have lousy pot, because there wasn't an orgy in sight.

Gateway drug?  Nonsense- we've got addictive individuals in our society who are going to get addicted to something, and marijuana was an easy target.  Interesting theory- no data- or at least, I've never seen anything persuasive.

By the way- one of the things we should do with the tax money is study addiction.  Last time I checked, we spend maybe $10M studying the causes of addiction in this country- which is not drop in the bucket compared to incarceration.  One of the few groups studying this is at Dartmouth and they concluded that brain chemistry continues to alter, so that by age 35, the inclination to smoke pot or other illicit substances is gone in most of the population- but judging by the responses on this board- not all.  But let's face it, trying drugs is something that kids do, and most adults grow out of, and it doesn't matter about the consequences- many adults could smoke dope and not get caught, yet they choose not to.  We desperately need better treatment for addicted individuals, and maybe with the slow demise of the tobacco industry, we might have a fighting prayer.  But then we've got the prison industry to deal with too....And oh yeah- tell me again why an addict/drug user belongs in jail, but an alcholic doesn't?

It's never going to be legal for two reasons. It's too easy to grow and the government can't tax it. It's an easy excuse for cops when they need probable cause or reason to hold someone and it inflates their arrest numbers.

Same basically goes for prostitution.

cheers

Prostitution's legal where I come from. Ironicly cleanest Prostitutes in all of Europe are in Amsterdam, they have a union and make each other get medicaly checked every month.

I’m glad to hear that, especially in light of your recent medical news. I hope all
is going well with that.

I do also think alcohol is a gateway drug but keeping in mind what i said - it is all up to the individual - the caffine in soft drinks could be a gateway drug to some - I not saying we should make anything that could be a gateway drug illegal, i am just saying that is one reason why I dont support the legalization of it.

Your thoughts on marijuana...be it if you smoke, if you support its legality or of course if you don't.

Used it a few times in my sophomore /junior years and haven't touched it since.

I fully support the legalization of marijuana and all other drugs {including anabolic steroids}

It--along with other drugs--act in way that cleanses humanity.
