A great deal of the fetish gear I've seen looks ludicrous.

Not sure if it counts, but I once wore knee high boots with heels and a black skirt with a black top to go out in - and got asked if I had brought my whip out with me?

I wear just my latex catsuit in public every now any then, but I don't care what people think. I do it if the mood catches me. Sometimes I do it to shock the "normies" and see their deprived reactions, other times I do it because it's what I want to wear that day. The funniest time was when I went out to a public park with a domme friend to feed ducks and geese. I was wearing just my catsuit and I was on her leash. As I fed the ducks, a little boy, about 4 years old, comes up behind me and gooses me! I immediately turn around to see what just grabbed my butt and the kid started laughing, pointed, and said, "Shiny!" It was too freakin' cute! His mom was mortified, but we all got a big laugh out of it after the initial shock. The mom then became fascinated with my attire and she spent the next half-hour or so wanting to know everything about it. In fact, the fourth pic on my profile was a pic taken that day at the park.

it depends on the concert then i could blend in with the crowd in my fetish gear otherwise i prefer wearing my collar and chains with my nilla clothes.

First you need to define 'fetish clothing'. Shoes would be fetish to me. Barefoot would too. Retro music and gaming shirts rock and when Darcy wears them, I have little control.

As a person from the UK, I would suggest that your not getting out much? If you talking rubber, pvc and leather, it's pretty much everywhere. Collars are as mainstream as they come now and corsets are EVERYWHERE, even the crap kind and it's not just found in cities. I would guess that it's not that there is less fetish, just that it's not restricted and more mix and match now.

As others have said.......I think it depends on what you determine fetish wear to be. Then as LA has mentioned, HOW you wear something is a huge thing also.

Ten years ago the UK didn't have surveillance cameras on every street. Since the cameras are able to ID faces it may be that people don't want their fetish preferences stored away in some government computer file along with photos to confirm. Might not be an issue, but I could see the possibility of such files being checked when you applied for a government job or health care or even if you were arrested under suspicion of some unrelated crime. In the UK, and increasingly in the US a bit of paranoia is probably a good thing.

As others have pointed out, fetish is a moving target. It doesn't just mean collars and chains, it can mean anything at all, including what is to others vanilla stuff.

Personally I adore and love those Gothic Lolita Japanese costumes and if I could get away with it I would wear those out in public almost every day.
