Essentially, most of these techniques work in the same way: they cause you to slow your breathing and thus increase the level of CO2 in your lungs. The Carbon dioxide causes your muscles to relax and this quells the spasam of the diaphram that is the cause of your hiccups. Most of these will work. But, all you really need to do is hold your breath for as long as you can, then breathe normaly for a few moments, then hold it again.... repeat until you've hiccupped about three or four times... At that point, they should go away... If they persist, go to your local grocery, and ask for a small styrofoam cup of dry ice, and breathe the CO2 coming off of it for a few moments... Careful that you don't over do it and pass out. Both have worked well for me.
