We've got four felines and an African Grey parrot.
One of the cats enjoys being outdoors most of the time... and he possesses a number of dog-like qualities. He also likes to herd people when he's indoors if he's not immediately scratched or petted. He'll headbutt a few times before switching to wrapping a paw around an ankle, almost always with claws out. He's also about twenty pounds of cat, a good portion of it bone and muscle.
The only female feline is very, very selective about who may touch her and when. She's a shelter kitty - and likely semi-feral before that. Luckily, she was a kitten when she was wrangled. So bit by bit she trusts a little more. However, we've had her for a few years and she still slinks and flies into a frenzy if someone tries to pick her up. She has to invite herself or she flips out. She's tiny and looks a bit like a fuzzy, silver and grey bedroom slipper.
She has a sibling (in that they both came to live with us as kittens and on the same day) and he's a lovely, slightly cross-eyed Siamese. Beautiful and extremely loving. He's my bratling, in particular. Scratches at my door when I've got it shut. Cries right outside my door until he's let in. Cuddles in my lap at every chance he gets. And almost always lays in my lap on his back so that he can look up and watch me when he's first decided to come see me. He's also our resident hunter and has brought both lizards and mice to an untimely demise. And he's got a bell!
And lastly we've got the old man of the group. He's getting on in years and we're not entirely sure how old that is. But he's been losing a bit of weight lately. He, like all of our other furry beasts, is a shelter kitty. He's got plenty of personality and adores catnip, rolls about and sits on his catnip toys... looks like he's trying to hatch them. Some disgusting bit of vile human filth declawed him in the front. If you love your furniture more than a living creature... don't bring one home. They also likely tormented him with a plastic bag at one point, because the sound of them has him running for the hills... or rather behind the couch or under a bed. Bringing in the groceries is always interesting. And if I ever got my hands on his former people I'd show them what for - or at least spit in their eye.
The parrot is a riot. He knows how to mimic each of the cats... so when he sees them he'll often use their meows and trills. He also makes the sound of running water, the squeaking refridgerator door, all three of the doors to our house and a dropping bomb with a small explosion noise... along with an assortment of other fun sounds. He also helpfully dials the telephone, sometimes lacking the correct amount of digits... sometimes going way over. And then he'll have a one-sided conversation, always in my father's voice. "Hello. Uh huh. Uh huh. Yeah. Good-bye." He's also copied other things my father's said in the past, "The Black Bird" ... "The Maltese Falcon" ... My name, bellowed... a profanity followed by my sister's name... and sometimes just profanity in general. Which amuses me to no end when we've got company.
