But of course Ocilla, you are welcome any time.

TOB, you know you are also welcome. We've known one another for several years now, you've heard all about the farm.  And yes, today it is definately too cold, even for me, to be out riding. Current temperature is 9 degrees at 9:40AM and sunny. It was -2 when I was out feeding those horses at 5:15 this morning in the dark. Too damned cold.

For some reason, it's been the other way around for me. I know a lot of Dominants with cats while I know quite a few submissives with dogs. I'm a switch, so you can't really judge by me, but I am much more of a cat person than a dog person.

Its just as easy to be dominant with a cat as it is with a dog.

In my experience, cats respond well to dominant owners: those who establish rules, protocols, discipline, authority, and who like to play hard within the cat's limits --- expanding the cat's level of trust in the owner.

On the other hand, cats with owners who are not dominant, can tend to be skittish, less playful, and less trusting.

I definitely like cats better because I relate more. I find dogs tedious and dumb, while cats are sneaky and intelligent.

If I wanted to own a sub, I'd get a sub. If I want to own a pet, I'll get a damned cat.

I've a female cat that has always thought SHE was the Domme in the household. Had a cute yorkie that the cat totally dominanted. Now we have a black lab that lives outside because of his taste for my lingerie and shoes (hmmmm, sounds like my boy!)... Oh, and the horse is female and comes only if she thinks you have a treat for her...

A friend of mine brought up this idea at a kink gathering not long ago. It prompted some good conversation. I don't know that there's much weight to it, though, particularly given the many different personalities among dogs and cats, and the many counterexamples (doms with cats, subs with dogs, etc.) But I think it's a great icebreaker conversation, since it allows people to debate and disagree with one another while keeping the conversation light and low-states, and it also gives an easy forum to reveal orientations (especially important at a play event!) Besides, pet stories are often endearing.

I recently had a conversation with a Domme who stated that, in her experience, dominant women were generally dog people whereas submissive ones are generally cat people.  I hadn't heard that association before.  But on some level it makes some sense-- dogs generally are more obedient (submissive) whereas cats are kind of aloof and independent.

Without inviting any more "dominant pussy" jokes (reference to a recent post for those reading who don't keep track of such things), does your experience bear out this observation?

Regards, ATP

I love both animals...but am owned 100% by two gorgeous ninja kitties.  So no, in my experience this observation wouldn't work in My case. Edited to add... they're the only ones who have that privilege of owning Me, btw!

*giggles remembering the dominant pussy thread!*

Have always had dogs, usually large ones at that.  Just downsized due to being in wheelchair so now I have a toy poodle and a peke/pom mix.  Love my dogs.
