I remember the rag and bone man too. Only he collected old clothing, sheets, etc (dunno where the "bones" came into it). I'd beg Mum to give me enough to get a half dead goldfish in a plastic bag, but all I ever got was a balloon. I was so deprived as a child.

The very first mobile phones, that were the size and weight of a housebrick, but you were oh so chic if you had one.

I had a Skip-It as a kid.  I also had a Sit & Spin.  It wasn't until much later that I realized how inappropriately named it was.  *grin*

Santa brought 2 Skip-Its to our house this Christmas.  As well as a pogo stick. Somehow we end up with the toys the more nostalgic elves make.

Family reunions with bushels of crabs! Yes, bushels along with enough melted butter to fill two or more Country Crock buckets. We liitle ones ate crab till our fingers and tummies hurt.........
Playing M*A*S*H and hoping like hell that I didn't end up married to the ugly guy, with an old hoopty, with 14 kid in a shack.......
Jumping rope, doing cheers/steps, Miss Mary Mack, Cinderella dressed in yella, I like coofee, I like tea, I like a boy and he likes me, Atari and Nintendo, the big "floppy" floppy disks, playing Oregon Trail on DOS........, Shame, shame, shame, I don't wanna go to Mexico no more, more, more......., the Itsy Bitsy Spider, There Was an Old Lady, Limbo-ing, Hula-hooping and then using the hoop as a Skip-It,
Walking down the road bare foot with friends to go pick apples, pecan, sweet potatos, and cucumbers. Riding in the back of the truck, charging people 50 cents for a can of beer and one of Grandma's weekend parties, going to the Hot Dog Shop where Mr. Clark made the hot dogs special order just for you instead of picking one off a menu, my first encounter with my aunt's waterbed, using an outhouse!, getting candy for two cent or 3 pieces for five cent at the ice cream truck.....
Getting popped in the mouth for saying the word 'bastard', my aunt scaring me with my cousin's My Buddy Doll right after we'd just finished watching 'Child's Play' on VHS, sneaking with friends to watch one of their daddy's porn, climbing a tree with a skirt one cause a boy dared me,......
Man, I could just go on and on.......good memeries, real good. Glad to remember them.

Bushels of crabs.....I was just thinking about that the other day. My grandmother had a summer house on the Chesapeake bay and you could walk out on the old dock, throw a chicken neck on a string into the water and pull out huge fat blue crabs as fast as you could work the net. I go crabbing when I make it back down to old VA once every couple years and they seem to have dissapeared. It's sad and kind of scary, too.

The big crab boil with the newspapers and Old Bay and the beer and my drunk uncles is one of my early memories.

With all the hate in the world, i'd like to revive an old thread that made most of us smile at the memory. Anyone care to add onto this?.....

The Soupy Sales "scandal"

Does anyone at all remember Birthday House "Hi Mike, Hi Mike, I like Hi Mike"

Dark Shadows was the afternoon soap to watch

Girls wore dresses to school, boys wore real shirts that had to be ironed, everyone wore actual shoes, not sneakers.  We changed to gym suits for gym class.  Girls took Home Ec, boys took shop at about 7th grade and that's just the way it was.

Having the RIGHT lunchbox for the new school year was an important decision.

Girls always wore a hat or kercheif on her head in church.  In a true emergency, a lunch napkin could be substituted.

You had to actually TYPE your term papers, and if the teacher was particularly nice, he or she MIGHT allow you to use "End Notes" instead of "Footnotes" because you really had to be a good typist to plan out the typed page.

Hay rides in the fall on the back of a tractor in the dark. Picking raspberries and blackberries in my back yard. Playing baseball with my cousins in our own yard. No airconditioning so was always cooler outside than in. Running around outside barefooted.  Going to the park and not have to worry where my mom was. Console TVs, no cable, no phone, no computer...and I really ain't that old lol. Growing up poor made us get out of the house and acutally play.

i remember riding this little green plastic tractor up and down sidewalks pretending it was a car and loving the sensation of "driving" over the cracks and unevenness in the pavement (i still do love doing it in a car and im 21, lol) and sitting on the sidewalk making and collecting up chalk dust (the process was to take sticks of chalk and keep rubbing them down in a small area and then collecting up the 'dust' in a container--which eventually i would add water to and 'paint' the sidewalk instead of draw.) i remember selling bracelets i made in front of our house (which was a suburban out of the way neighborhood which nobody ever drove by.  Only sold two, same person.  i remember dancing around our basement having dancing contests with my siblings and cousins and collecting rocks from underneath our deck.  i remember going to swim meets and crying on the way there almost every time because i was nervous.  i remember sneaking around and watching my dads porn.  Oh Oh and lastly i remember always playing with little toy cars and driving them around the dirt patches that mingled throughout our lawn.  Ahh the gold ol' days.  Thanks for giving me the chance to reminisce.
