i was reading the fear of heights post and got to thinking about my fears.  i didn't want to hijack the thread so here this one is.

what are your fears or phobias?  be they funny and nonsensical or serious.  what gets your palms sweaty and your heart racing just thinking of them?

mine are:

sharks or anything that could make a snack out of me
that i'll burn to death...or worse, that i'll burn terribly and live through it.
spiders and most bugs
being in very deep water (as in oceans or lakes)
extreme heights
that i'll outlive my babies.

Needles and the siphoning of blood.  It's a violent phobia.

Nothing else, really.  I seem to have lost some of emotions some years back.  Fear was, apparently, one of them.  I only experience my phobia passively.. it causes either weakness (typically with a "flee" response) or intense strength (typicaly with a "fight" response).  Typically more "flee" if I sense no aggression and the needle's for someone else.  "Fight" seems to be the default for most situations, though.

This said, I may have other fears which I don't realize due to relatively weak physical impacts.

certain people of my generation
falling (i figured out i don't mind heights its the thought of falling from that height that really frightens me)

Sort of related, rain is like anti-fear to me.  It's a marvelous feeling; I truly love the rain.

ahhhh, there you go....you just helped me realize why i have my fear of heights.  i'm not afraid of looking out the window in an airplane, but i'm terrified of being on top of a building looking down, with nothing to protect me from falling off.....

I have a weird thing with veins and the inside of a body, like bones and stuff...

I am also a giant wuss when it comes to scary movies, like the ring and deformed faces kind of thing - wow... scary - you know those e-mails you get that are pranks but they show like something you have to concentrate on (i have seen it as a game or a song with lyrics) and all the sudden it switches to a scary face of a girl - wow that scares the shit out of me - it is truely a phobia that can make me physically ill...

Heights, cockroaches, needles, and babies. Yes, babies. Can't get within 5ft of them without flipping out. The younger they are, the worse my phobia. I absolutely cannot be near one under a year old..and I'm not truly comfortable with them until they're about 5 or 6...

I'm afraid of quite many things. Spiders and bugs, unexplained horrors in horror movies (the mystical, the zombies, skeletons, mummies, all the things you're supposed to be scared of).

The funny thing is that when I'm with my girl, I'm not afraid at all. I don't mean that I don't show fear. I mean I'm not afraid. It's like there's another part of me that overrides the possibility of fear. There's more important things around.

I have many hard limits, but only one true phobia.....snakes!!!!

When I say true phobia, I mean a clinically diagnosed phobia.   I fear several things, but nothing even comes close to describing my fear of snakes.   I am FAR better than I used to be, but having one surprise me in the woods or otherwise do something unsuspected locks me down so hard I can't breath.    It screw up my nerves for the rest of the day.

I have all the fears of a "normal" person, but snakes do something to me that I can't possibly describe.   That said, I find it rather odd since I really like snakes and find them to be fascinating animals.   I love reading about them and watching TV shows about them.   However, I can't go into the snake exhibit at the Knoxville Zoo because it is a hallway with aquariums on both sides.   I actually enjoy looking at them in an aquarium in front of me, but one in front and one behind is a bit much for my anxiety.

My fun fear that I love it play is knives.  They scare the shit out of me but don't drive me to insane levels of terror.  I love the fright they give me and enjoy knife play.  (Not cutting, just play.)

I have the same type of fear, but it isn't the height or falling... it's the hitting the ground in the end.

Scared to death of spiders. I am alergic to them, and know what can happen if one bites me, so a phobia really isnt a bad thing there.
Also scared of flying, though I cope with that living where I am and having family and friends all over the damn world. Still scared, but its a tolerable fear.
