In a few of his letters in the Bible (no, I don't remember which ones) he outlines where he thinks a woman's place shuold be.

Actually, I mispoke, Proberbs 31 also outlines what a woman should strive for.  But the tone is far less misogynist then Paul's letters.

I've always felt that Paul was an egomaniac over-achiever.  When he was persecuting the Christians he was the best in his field, when he got blinded and heard Jesus' voice he automatically became the top authority and was never hesitant to tell the converted how they should act.

This is a damn interesting discussion

Friedrich Nietzsche

It would be nice if people would actually quote some of Nietzsche's writings instead of just the pop culture three word simplification of a profound and complicated book.

(No offense to you personally. Everyone else who thinks quoting Nietzsche is the "cool" thing to do without actually reading what he wrote is included with you in that offense. [:D])

((Don't even get me started on the "It's better to be feared then to be loved" Machiavelli crap))

In a philosophical discussion.I would delve deeper.......when being a smart ass.I see no need...:)......no offense taken...lol

Damn you!

I really wasn't picking on you, but hey...seems you can't have a discussion about God anymore without some punk college kid interjecting the whopper of an insightful and intellectual phrase of "God is Dead -Nietszche" in an attempt to look really profound.

I mean come on. The phrase doesn't even do the point he was trying to get across any justice!

Okay, done with the hijack.

PanthersMom -> RE: Some religions believe (1/16/2008 11:29:42 AM)

i gave up on religion a long time ago, i prefer to say i'm a spiritual person.  i believe in a higher power, but the rest is still waiting to be discovered.  in time we all find out.

that it is against God to do any BDSM. Does anyone know why? Is it because of the sexual pleasure that they object to or is it something else? Thanks

If this has been said already, I apologize as this thread is long and a bit convuluted--

First of all "any BDSM" is a huge generalization--I doubt that any spiritual being would fault a Dominant for the love and protection afforded a submisisve as being against ANY spiritual law---on the converse---poly sexual interactions are against many spiritual groups--both of those are elements of BDSM.

As such, "God" limits that to certain religions, as many believe in a different spiritual leader.

IMHO most religions and spiritual groups have some basic laws---love yourself, love man--give those basics---I do not see how something done with consent can be against those laws?   I don't remember seeing anywhere in the Christian bible where it says, thou shalt not tie your partner up and beat them for mutual pleasure--but then I am o only human and not an expert.
