Human vs Animals
I sometimes look to the similarities between human nature and animal nature. One
could argue that humans are, in fact, animals. I do agree, just creatures that are part computers. As
humans, our higher thinking has collected over the generations and written itself upon our conscienceness,
as hidden deeper primal instincs are still written upon our subconscience. Human nature seems to be
a combination of higher ideals and survival of the fittest.
Fine-lined boundaries weave into every state of a human's existance. Our cultures have givin
us rituals by which we train our behavior into that which will be accepted by those that were trained before.
Follow the rules, and everyone stays happy. Conflict will arrise, however, when these higher ideals obstruct the
need of our instincs. Man must eat to live, but if he has no means by which to pay for his nurishment, he
will steal as any other beast to insure his survival.
Sharks, wolves, preditors; this we call those humans that will take the fore-ground and face
whatever opposition they meet. A fox is clever while a dog is shameless. Sheep trust and follow the
strongest lead, for their passive tendancies do not foster great leadership. Juviniles, elderly, infermed, and
the timid are all prey.
In the effort to better one's state of being, the human attempts think greater thoughts, build taller
towers, do greater deeds. In all this work, he stops listening to the pangs of hunger, the need to rest, even
the call to mate and procreate. The human feels he must conquer the need of his physical self to evolve
his mental and spiritual statis.
I wonder if the universe were to tossle the snow-globe of our world, and society were nothing but
a clean slate again, if instincs were embraced more heartily by humans, rather than be denied or belittled. For
all that the higher mind has tried to purge the ancient knowlege from our being, it has failed. Even in centuries
of the most piosed repression, the were-wolf was a true a being as the tax-collecter. Albeit, tainted grain with
the power of holucinaginics played a great role in this mass belief, it was still the human mind that was so
eager to embrace the idea of a creature that was half-man and half-beast.
And so the werewolf was granted a place in human records. Some years later the frightening image
would be replace by a reclusive fellow named Bigfoot, who like the instincs of man, was only ever to be hidden
far away from humans' sight.
It is interesting that by following the need for sexual unions, that humans will let other needs surface.
Generally these needs are called tabus, and hidden from plane sight. Dating, evolved from courtship, has replaced
mans' need to hunt. It also fulfills the need to see one's gene carried on to the next generation, if not seeking
to throughoughly populate the next generation.
I think that the calling of primal roles still fashion some of the behavior in modern humans. Alpha types
may follow impulses to marry earlier and establish themselves in their communities. While lone wolves exist
upon charges to challenge all, though take no responcibility for the pack that is disrupted. What might have
been an average pack member, now amounts to an average person.
