How the hell does a song about the love between muskrats make it to #1???????????????

What about a song about a desert and a horse with no name?  How did that get to be such a big hit?

*tears welling up*  Thank you, oh thank you!  First of all, I'd like to thank Mr. Manilow himself...

edited to say:  Kana, I defy you to tell me that you don't sing along to every ...single...Barry Manilow song you hear on the radio.  ALL of the words.
In fact, I defy almost anyone here to tell me they don't at least know the words to his songs, even if they refuse to listen to Barry...

Actually, I only know a couple lines of Mandy, the only Manilow song I know.  You guys are Fanilows!  It's great.

Sorry its been years since I heard a Manilow song, like maybe 1979.
I remember peices of "Looks like you made it" and a few bars of Copa but thats about it.
Now I can say that I know all the lines to Seasons in the Sun.

Tonight I found myself driving down the road listening to the radio just digging on some old Boz Scaggs(Lido Shuffle). The hidden secret of my life is that I am a total sucker for lots and lots of cheesy 70's music, things like Gerry Rafferty (Baker Street kills me dead),, Seals and Crofts and America. I even like old funk. Its just stuff I grew up listening too and then moved past as I moved into the "cool teenager" stage of existence and went for things like Led Zeppelin, Floyd, Rush, etc.... But I still love all that old stuff and if it hits in the car when I am driving alone, man am I just cranking it up and singing along, air guitar and all.
So time to fess up, whats the dark musical secret of your life?

Kana,
You should definitely check out the thread's that Level has started called (I believe) "Level's Jukebox."  He is our resident music expert and, like me, loves all that ole cheesy 70's stuff too.  He went to YouTube and posted videos of all the old songs we all said we liked.  So cool!  I love almost all cheesy 70's music but the deepest darkest secret of all is probably.....drum roll.....Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good."  [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m28.gif[/image].  There......I've said it.......admitting your problem is the first step to getting help, right? [:D].............luci

What about that song * Loving You * by Minnie Ripperton ????? god i said it .. hehe

subtee -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/18/2008 11:03:12 AM)

oh.my.god. Meat Loaf!!!

We used to scream the words at the back and forth part on "Paradise by the Dashboard Light." Remember the video with the chick in the blue spandex jumpsuit and matching headband?

I always wondered what he wouldn't do on "I'd Do Anything for Love":

Anything for love, oh I would do anything for love
I would do anything for love, but I won't do that, oh I won't do that

What won't he do??? It's Meat Loaf!

KatyLied -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/18/2008 11:16:04 AM)

He won't cheat.

subtee -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/18/2008 11:36:47 AM)

The inimitable musical stylings of......Paul Anka! The magic's in the lyrics:

[Paul:]
Havin' my baby [prounounced "baybah"]
What a lovely way of sayin'
How much you love me
Havin' my baby
What a lovely way of sayin'
What you're thinkin' of me
I can see it, face is glowin'
I can see in your eyes
I'm happy you know it

[Both:]
That you're havin' my baby

[Paul:]
You're the woman I love
And I love what it's doin' to ya

[Both:]
Havin' my baby

[Paul:]
You're a woman in love
And I love what's goin' through ya

[Paul:]
The need inside you
I see it showin'
Whoa, the seed inside ya
Baby, do you feel it growin'
Are you happy you know it
That you're

[Both:]
Havin' my baby

[Odia:]
I'm a woman in love
And I love what it's doin' to me

[Both:]
Havin' my baby

[Odia:]
I'm a woman in love
And I love what's goin' through me

[Paul:]
Didn't have to keep it
Wouldn't put ya through it
You could have swept it from you life
But you wouldn't do it
No, you wouldn't do it

[Both:]
And you're havin' my baby

[Odia:]
I'm a woman in love
And I love what it's doin' to me

[Both:]
Havin' my baby

Yes, it's Meat Loaf, but he does not want to be tied down into a LTR...

KatyLied -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/18/2008 11:57:24 AM)

Well that's what someone told me many years ago.  I will confess that I've never listened to that song the entire way through,  when Meatloaf plays I press the "seek" button.

Well, up until a few years ago, I was embarrassed to admit that I love Journey but then I stopped caring. God I love that song "The Lights." Everytime I hear that song I always think of my old hometown in SF ?? >>sniff<<

beargonewild -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/18/2008 12:29:19 PM)

Maybe this will bring back cheesy memories   *weg*

Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing

They were funky China men from funky Chinatown
They were chopping them up and they were chopping them down
It's an ancient Chineese art and everybody knew their part
From a feint into a slip, and kicking from the hip

Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing

There was funky Billy Chin and little Sammy Chung
He said here comes the big boss, lets get it on
We took a bow and made a stand, started swinging with the hand
The sudden motion made me skip now we're into a brand new trip

Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they did it with expert timing

(repeat)..make sure you have expert timing
Kung-fu fighting, had to be fast as lightning

OMG this made me laugh out loud over here.  That song was pure cheese when it first came out and now it's moldy cheese!!!  [:D]

Any Cheers fans might remember this - when Frasier walks into the bar and says he's just heard the most intriguing song:  "Everybody have fun tonight.  Everybody Wang Chung tonight."

Kana -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/18/2008 2:42:40 PM)

ownedgirlie -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/18/2008 3:30:06 PM)

I never liked Meatloaf, but I never felt he was dorky to like.

I like disco.  There, I said it.

To compensate, however, I also like rock, jazz and classical.  :)
