Even Led Zepplin had this cheesy song called "Dyer Maker", starting out with "Oh, oh, oh, you don't have to go, oh, oh, oh, you don't have to go oh, oh, oh, darling, please don't go".  That song reminded me of my first summer crush and my heartbreak at 15 years old.  When I hear that song on the radio, I have to turn the volume up and smile.

*taps the mic* Hello, my name is cuff and I like, to this day, NKOTB, they were my first ever concert. The BeeGees are awesome along with Neil Diamond. ANything 80s, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Tommy Page, Poison, Bon Jovi. I also like James Taylor, Carol King and all kinds of stuff. I will go to the corner of shame now, thank you.

Hey, Cuff .. can we hang sometime?  lol  These are all my favorites.  I'm totally into Poison right now.  Brett Michaels may be skanky and wear a weave, but he can sing.

"Rock Me Gently" .. one of my favorite songs ever!

Oh, and The Carpenters!  Anything by them makes me cry.

Bound2One -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/19/2008 12:26:22 AM)

Oh, man, now this is really embarrassing.  I was at a three-day seminar for work.  One of those touchy-feely, hand-holding, 'what personality are you' ones that were popular in the 90's.  They ended one day with a group meditation moment, and played ... oh, crappola, just forgot the title of the song.  You know that cheesy one about fathers and how he never played with his kid but now he wants to play with him, but the kid doesn't have time ...  the Nyquil is kicking in now and I can't get the energy to Google.

Regardless .. it was humiliating trying to hide my reddened eyes as I walked out of the conference room!  It just brought back all the vulnerable, hurt feelings from a bad relationship with my dad.  ::sigh::

Well that's what someone told me many years ago.  I will confess that I've never listened to that song the entire way through,  when Meatloaf plays I press the "seek" button.

Bat out of Hell is one of my favorite albums ever.  Brings me right back to my impassioned, tortured teenage years.  Different strokes ... [;)]

I listen to Gordon Lightfoot, all the other goth kids make fun of me, but I love his music, oh, and Jim Croce

i'm guessing that would be Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin, one of the best "storyteller singers" in American music... i still can't listen to that song in casual company, but i don't really think of that as "embarassing" on the same level as, say, New Kids On The Block.

At any rate, i think everyone gets a pass on anything that was in the Top 10 while they were a kid... commercial radio and peer pressure can do strange things to the brain.

With that said... i'll confess to

LONG HAIR SWINGIN' MIDDLE FINGER IN THE AIR

Kiiiiiiiiid Rock!

(damnit, there's no good :metal smiley on this board... gotta go with my homies here: [sm=whap.gif] )

lronitulstahp -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/19/2008 2:51:36 AM)

"i wanna know what love is....i want you to show me"...(strangely, i think i heard that song on Miami Vice)   and another father/son song...."Say it loud....say it clear....it's too late when we die to admit we don't see eye to eye"...WWWWAAYY cornier than "Cat's in Cradle"...but i still sing it every time i hear it(gag reflex kicking in)

Lucylastic -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/19/2008 6:03:33 AM)

Gary glitter, david cassidy, marc bolan,  boney M, manilow, the birdy song,
to hear blondie as a jingle for swiffer makes me wanna hurl
oh so many many bad songs, and so many stick in your head for days, whats with that? its like some sick joke you play on yourself.
And I still cry at Puff the Magic Dragon, and Seasons in the sun by Terry Jacks.
But Im firmly stuck in the 80s now, lots to chose from that era
Lucy

youngsubgeoff -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/19/2008 6:08:32 AM)

allright, I go again...

The Pixies

Kana -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/19/2008 6:52:58 AM)

Whoa, time out.
There is nothing at all uncool or embarassing about The Pixies.
Thats kinda like saying "Oh, I am so humiliated, you caught me listening to The White Stripes." Or T-rex, or Lou Reed or Miles Davis or any of the other bands that defined what hip really is.
Every generation there seems to be one or two bands that transcend their music and define what is kewl, their legacy lingers on long after they have passed from the scene.
Fuck, Frank Black is Uber-cool, even Cobaine worshiped him.

RavenOak -> RE: The embarrasing music admission thread (1/19/2008 7:16:00 AM)

Ok....my favorite band of all time is the Monkeeys.  LOL.  I can sing almost every song word for word right along with the music.

My ex said I'm weird.  Am I embarrassed?  NO!  LOL.  Good music is good music!  Hehe.

BTW, the majority of my music is alternative these days....ie: Evanecense.....Love it!  Now tell me this....how the hell does one switch from Red Hot Chili Peppers to the Monkeeys in a heart beat?  And I wonder why people think I'm weird.   Hehe.
