They were just the other side of the balance. For light there must be dark, for order there must be chaos, for life there must be death, etc...

The word you're looking for is khthonic (alternate spellings include kthonic, chthonic, cthonic, etc.), I believe.

quote:

But, Satan, on the other hand, is seen as the personification of evil, true maliciousness without cause, reason, or balance (unless it would be jealousy?).

Nietzsche aside, create a concept of good and evil like most Christians do, and some drives all humans share will tend to seek their expression in an inversion of these things. Rejecting the notion of good (and evil along with it) negates the false dichotomy and dispels the more complicated expressions of malice, leaving only something recognizably feral in nature. And feral isn't nearly as "scary" as the structured and systematic approach that is afforded by the framework set up by such a dichotomy. Learn good, and you know evil. Realize that they are both illusions created by your mind, and neither one exists anymore. Satan and evil are pathologies, pretty much.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Usually when people say "nectar," they seem to be referring to another bodily fluid.

Sorry, no. It's grape soda. One of the more disappointing discoveries in modern theology.

Grape isn't my favorite flavor, but ok I'm easy!

Yet it also makes sense that to understand good, one must have some understanding of evil.

One hopes you spend a lot of time in battle, or yodling while dressed like a woman, then...
...else, he might not be too happy at that prospect.

I am a Christian. I believe that Jesus is the son of God. I believe that he died on the cross and went to hell so that I would not go to hell for my sins.

I am not closed minded about other peoples beliefs.

I am not perfect, only one perfect person ever walked the Earth, He died so that I could live. He agreed to do that even though He knew what would happen to Him, no one else would ever do that for me.

I am a sinner...but I am forgiven.

Does that answer your question? Hugs!

It's a common fallacy, but let's not derail this thread.

Yes, it would be just TERRIBLE to derail this thread from the oh-so-serious-consideration that we are all satanists.

No, I mean it would be terrible to get all serious in a thread that is little more than a joke born out of ignorance and/or trolling.

Health,

Simply playful and creative little cherubs.

p.s. Satan, please protect me from your puppets.

Ah chia, you are such a delight! The next time I celebrate Beltane, how about you join me? We'll dance skyclad around the cauldron and after wards drink the nectar from the Gods!

Well then, I'm all up for dancing naked around the May pole whilst licking nectar
from the....ah....... chests of godlike entities hovering above me.

But cauldrons?????????????????????

Why the hell dampen the festivities by dragging my ex-wife into it?

One must be intellectually honest and open-minded in order to accept the sexual practices and beliefs of those who are not 'mainstream.'

No gripe with the rest, given the qualifiers at the end, but I disagree with this one.

There is nothing to indicate any correlation between kink and open-mindedness. In fact, because kinksters are already "one step ahead" (while still within the norm, but often not seeing this), it is rather common to find them less open-minded, if anything. Probably, though, it's just a case of the "closed" sign being more visible due to the inherent hypocrisy of stepping outside the norm, proclaiming a new norm, holding others to the new norm, and then bitching about how close-minded the average Joe is in not accepting this new norm with one fork of the tongue, and about how some people step outside it with the other fork.

No better or worse, and not actually different, but more visible.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Aswad, I agree completely. I never said that there was a correlation between kink and open-mindedness. I am aware that many kinksters on this forum are just as ignorant and intolerant as the fundamentalists. I did say that one needs to be open-minded in order to be tolerant of that which is outside the mainstream. This may or may not include people who are outside the mainstream themselves. But you said it more eloquently than I.

Now, now... I think there is a misunderstanding here. You see I believe the original poster made a typo,
really meaning to ask if there were any SANTA-ists on here.
If that is the question, then yes, I will admit, that once upon a time I was indeed a Santaist.

Then I grew up...
But I still went to church, temple, mosque...
Then I...

I wouldn't know. I have had a third leg between the other two for as long as I can remember, and it didn't grow any at typing that. The damn traitor didn't even so much as twitch at the mention of the great Cthulhu or the thought of all the Hentai porn that could be made with the Starspawn of Cthulhu either. How twisted is that, huh?

quote:

Stop it Aswad. Take your heathen incantations elsewhere!!!

Heathen? Hardly. As far as I know, Cthulhu (and indeed the entire related mythology) was purely a construct of H. P. Lovecraft's deliciously sick and twisted imagination, although there are indeed strong similarities between these motifs (purportedly taken from his nightmares) and the early stages of Mesopotamian religions, such as the water analogies and so forth. Kind of a pity, as al-Aswad was what the fellahin (arabic peasants) called Nyarlathotep as he came out of Egypt... and he must have been a rather domly fella, given that «The fellahin knelt when they saw him, yet could not say why.» and so forth. Would have been a neat party trick at a munch.

Health,
al-Aswad.

For your further entertainment: «And through this revolting graveyard of the universe the muffled, maddening beating of drums, and thin, monotonous whine of blasphemous flutes from inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond Time; the detestable pounding and piping whereunto dance slowly, awkwardly, and absurdly the gigantic, tenebrous ultimate gods — the blind, voiceless, mindless gargoyles whose soul is Nyarlathotep.»
