Domming is as diverse as every style of D/s.  While I love the idea of Mistress being somewhat cold and strict with me, I'd also love it of She was playful and casual.  I say whatever works for that person, who are we to judge.  I like diversity.  Mistress can be very serious and cold, like She's almost possessed.  She can also be be warm, tender, and affectionate.  It keeps things fun and interesting.

He doesn't ever put on a fake stern manner. It's so not him. And frequenty we're both cracking jokes throughout. I don't act submissive, I simply submit to him. He doesn't act domly, he just asks me to do stuff and I do it. Looking at us, you wouldn't know there was a D/s relationship because he doesn't bark orders or wear black leather. We're just who we are, laid back types who enjoy each other's company.

And I think if two whip tops can successfully do one sub, without getting the singletails wrapped around each other, and without any wrapping on the sub, then $150 is cheap. That takes a huge amount of practice to be able to do so that easily while still being relaxed and cracking jokes. What you're not seeing is an hour of practice daily for a year's time if not more.
