ORIGINAL: mastergcs Is our life style disintegrating so fast that there is no hope? Are the ALT.com’s and the collarme.com’s etc. so dilluting my beloved life style, that there is no chance of recovery? Can any real Master or slave survive the onslaught of miss information and just plain wrong people? I cannot truly imagine what the “NEW” Master’s must be going through in order to find their way, in a lifestyle that has become filled with slaves telling Masters what to do, with Masters handing out collars of consideration, with “weekend” slaves? And I will not even start with my thoughts on collared submissive’s. Am I the only one who is feeling this way? 20 years ago this was a Lifestyle that had an occasional fetish, and NOW it seems to be a Fetish with the occasional Lifestyle. I really didn't have my finger on the pulse of "the lifestyle" twenty years ago (and I do make every effort to keep from wrapping my hands around its neck today), but I will say something perhaps out of character for me regarding this subject and be optimistic: the rampant inclusionism of the BDSM collective, while understandably troubling to many, is in some ways beneficial. In the court of so many diverse minds from so many walks of life, ideas, theories, techniques and life philosophies are discussed and challenged thoroughly—a thousand times if needed. The growing popularity of BDSM has managed to bring new enthusiasts into the fold that would perhaps never have considered it before. While it is certain a lot of bad can and has come from this, so too has good. A larger pool of prospectives that is the result of wider social acceptance is only one way of percieving gain in this. What is far more interesting to see is the evolution of camps of thought and how they are beginning to polarize themselves. Without a doubt, all ways of thinking are benefitting from the exchanges, even if simply to illustrate more clearly to each what they don't believe. In this way, one could perhaps compare the mass influx with the idea of the "helpful enemy." As viruses invading a body inevitably make its immune system stronger, so too our ideologies become tested and honed in the face of challenge from the many tentacles of orthodox thinking. One thing I can say for sure is that I know where I stand. No amount of misinformative trendiness in the world will make me blink. If we are safe and secure in our values and aims, it should matter little to us how ignorant others are. The transience and folly of "the shifting flow" will only make us look better to the more serious within the fold.
