The whole point of the discussion, though, was that some people can't or don't want to change their personal beliefs at the drop of a hat. I think the question was more intended towards those with a certain dogma - not necessarily one that says BDSM is explicitly good or explicitly bad, just one that exists.

And please. You weren't being "flamed" for being an atheist. I've been one for the better portion of my life. I think what collaredncontent and myself were saying was that the question had gotten derailed from "how do your personal /faith to your lifestyle?" to "beliefs/faith are meaningless".

"My question is more of a curiousity to see if anyone out here practices any established religion and how they fit the two pieces of themselves together in harmony." is from the OP.

Here on CollarMe.com, as with people in many places, I've mostly noticed people with religion modifying it to suit their lifestyle, values, and beliefs.  This strikes at the very essense of what the OP was asking.. "how they fit the two pieces of themselves together in hamony".

This was my point.  Please do not attribute any of the rest to me.

If a person is going to basically interpret a religion to suit his own feelings, why bother with the religion at all?  Why the cafeteria style picking and choosing?  Why not just do what you want if that is what you will do in the end anyway?

"give to god what is god's and give to rome what is rome's"

This thought is what guided me in reconciling my faith with my lifestyle choices.  The key was understanding what I thought was god's and what I thought was mine.

That was eloquently put...thank you for sharing...

Isn't homosexuality a sin in the Jewish religion?

To Orthodox yes, not to Reconstructionists.

Do you think Roman Catholics and Unitarianists agree on everything?

Don't take that to mean that I believe the lot of you are all godless heathens, since I don't judge anyone on the basis of what religion they feel is right for them if any at all.
I am a mutli god heathen and thank you for adding us tot he conversation :)  LOLAny religion, faith or belief system can have its faults with BDsM. New age relationships in general, non marital sex, male female roommates, gay, bisexual etc...through in some spanking, TPE or multiple partner issues and its hard for any religion to be THAT accepting and encompass all of the above. So my thought is to try to make what works for you work for you. If you are Jewish, Catholic, Southern Baptist or worship grasshoppers, you can make it work with some thought and time. Faith is what gets us through our lives..the good, bad and the ugly...:) my 2 centsPamela

For me it is the opposite.  People have faith that whatever god they believe in will do all these miraculous things.  He or she never does.  Yet they keep on believing.  Has any god EVER healed an amputee or severe burn victim? When you don't believe in any of that stuff, it is a lot easier to navigate in a world where awful things can and do happen.
