Ah. Good old Red Cross. I attempted to volunteer with that organization. I volunteered to go down to New Orleans and do whatever was needed to help out. I'd put up sandbags, feed people, distribute medicine, ANYTHING THAT WOULD HELP for as long as it takes!!!!! Do you know what they told me? I don't have a college degree, so thanks, but no thanks. They wouldn't take me because I didn't complete four years at an optional institution. People are fucking dying (pardon the language) and they wouldn't take me because I didn't have college level algebra?!!!! Apparently you have to be able to f.o.i.l. a basic equation to save a life. I understand wanting to help. I think the Red Cross is a wonderful organization. I approve of saving lives. However, I simply wanted to do what I could. I don't have any spare cash at all. I wanted to go down there and get my hands dirty and be of real use in the only way possible to me. I think it's more than a little inane that they won't take me because I don't have a degree. College education is not a prerequisite for intelligence or usefulness, and in this circumstance, it's ludicrous to expect that.
