Ah. Good old Red Cross. I attempted to volunteer with that organization. I volunteered to go down to New Orleans and do whatever was needed to help out. I'd put up sandbags, feed people, distribute medicine, ANYTHING THAT WOULD HELP for as long as it takes!!!!! Do you know what they told me? I don't have a college degree, so thanks, but no thanks. They wouldn't take me because I didn't complete four years at an optional institution. People are fucking dying (pardon the language) and they wouldn't take me because I didn't have college level algebra?!!!! Apparently you have to be able to f.o.i.l. a basic equation to save a life. I understand wanting to help. I think the Red Cross is a wonderful organization. I approve of saving lives. However, I simply wanted to do what I could. I don't have any spare cash at all. I wanted to go down there and get my hands dirty and be of real use in the only way possible to me. I think it's more than a little inane that they won't take me because I don't have a degree. College education is not a prerequisite for intelligence or usefulness, and in this circumstance, it's ludicrous to expect that.

That was a retarded and counterproductive response from the Red Cross... I wander what is up with that? I was watching the news, and some wealthy private citizen was said to charter a 747 and called them, and their alleged initial response was don't come... Very strange. M

Not strange at all. I have known the Red Cross to be counter productive for years and years. There is another major (medical) organization I have no use for either.
I could tell you a horror story about a direct experience My father had during WWII with the RC. But I won't. Suffice it to say that, although I am sure they do some good work, it is My opinion is that they have gotten way to big for their breeches. And it would be nice if less of the money was wasted on "administrative costs".
No offense to the folks who love the Red Cross. I just choose to do My work and send My donations through another charity.

Thanks, that is good to know. Amazing how focus is lost when there is a lot of money involved.
I hope www.BushClintonKatrinafund.org wont be managed away from the vulnerable victims. M
