YourhandMyAss -> Do you believe you can tell who is able bodied and who is not by looking at a picture? (1/30/2008 10:51:45 PM)

It's been said by someone on here you can clearly see who's disabled and who isn't in anyway by looking at pictures. I think it's a load of bunk because pictures don't tell the whole story, but it's an interesting thought* ok not really I just wanted to ask*

If you believe you can tell who's disabled or not from a pic, why do you believe that?

CuriousLord -> RE: Do you believe you can tell who is able bodied and who is not by looking at a picture? (1/30/2008 10:56:57 PM)

Of course you can't, but you can often make a good guess.  You could be right pretty often, but to expect it to be conclusive would be silly.

Out of curiousity, why this question?

GoddessDustyGold -> RE: Do you believe you can tell who is able bodied and who is not by looking at a picture? (1/30/2008 11:01:40 PM)

No, I don't believe that.  With some people, in person, it may become more obvious, but a pic would, not usually  be an accurate gauge in this instance.
I've seen too many people who look perfectly healthy to Me pull into the handicapped space and Damn!  They  have that little handicapped placard swinging on their rear view!
So they either have some sort of non-visible handicap (heart condition, respiratory, etc.) or somebody needs to tell Me who is taking money under the table at the DMV for one of those little suckers!

"Hail Mary full of grace, help me find a parking place!"

Curious Lord, because it's 11 pm I am here in my room and the thought popped into my head. I thought I'd ask and not derail any one particular thread with discussion of it.

adoracat -> RE: Do you believe you can tell who is able bodied and who is not by looking at a picture? (1/30/2008 11:09:40 PM)

if you looked at me...you'd see that yep, i'm carrying a little too much weight.  but you wouldnt see that most of the time my skin hurts so much that i hate clothing with a passion, that most movements make my joints feel like they're grating together, that right now it feels like i have a large knife sticking into my left thigh, and my feet hurt so bad with nerve pain that i hate to put them on the floor.

but if you looked at me, you'd probably see a smile in return to yours, or overhear pleasant conversation and laughter (especially if i'm out with my daughter Satan) and never guess its not being a good day for me.

You'd never guess that my backs injured from falling off a horse twice, both quite nasty spills, which took 2 years to recover from and I am not fully recoveredlooking at me, unless you saw me on a day where I could barely move and you had to take me to the dr for a injection so I could simply move again.

Would you like me to assess your health from your picture. If so tell me how old the picture is and I will assess your health with my assumtions being at least 80% correct.

I'll bet a twenty on it.

Here's what I got so far. You are nearsighted, needing glasses to drive for example for distance. you are overweight, but possibly not obese. I do not know, because I would have to know other things to determine that. You are possibly diabetic, but if you are not, I would suggest you get checked for it.

You most likely have either leg or back problems. They might not be all that bad yet, but you are at somewhat of a turning point, you either get on the path to becoming more healthy or you pretty much disintegrate.

You might develop gall bladder problems, and I hope you don't, it sucks. And you probably have a touch of edema in the feet.

If these problems have not been visited upon you yet, keep an eye out for them.

And this is all just from viewing your picture. They call me the Terminator for good reason, I did not give myself that name.

It is all in your face. You are a certain type of people, and I can tell a bit more, but that detail is not needed now. I do not need to read your whole profile, I can tell by the picture.

Others can as well, they just don't know it yet.

I will not reveal how I figure this out, and if what I said is not true, be on the lookout for it. that is the way I saw it so that is the way I called it. I could be wrong, but I might not be.

If I am wrong I will apoligize, skulk back under my rock and shut the hell up, but I think I am right, otherwise I would not have said it.

Be well, get well or stay well, take your pick.

Oh goody!  I like this game!  Would you assess Me now?  My pictures were taken 2 1/2 years ago (yeah, yeah...I will try to get a little update, but I really haven't changed!) but the head shot is 3 1/2 years ago.  (Heads up!  I am not really 99 years old, and that is the only hint you get!)
Just click on My name or Av and you will go straight to My profile!
I got My twenty dollar bill right here!

Arpig -> RE: Do you believe you can tell who is able bodied and who is not by looking at a picture? (1/31/2008 12:55:50 AM)

Kinda depends on the picture, anybody perusing my pics will see that I, at least sometimes, walk with a cane, so it would be no big leap to assume I am at least partially disabled.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Do you believe you can tell who is able bodied and who is not by looking at a picture? (1/31/2008 1:20:49 AM)

the pictures from last july, so very very recent in terms of being only a few months.

I need my glasses for everything, Except reading if I want to put the book right into my face I can see to read with out my lenses.

overweight you can tell from the pic back problems I said above and in the profile, so you might of guessed those. The average 5 foot tall woman should only weigh 130 or so and I weigh 300 so technically I guess you'd call it obese, but I rather don't look to tooooo much out of shape I've been told.  I don't know what edema is lookin it up now. If you can guess what other foot and ankle problems I have it wouldn't supprise me since being over weight causes the problems with my arches and my heel joints.

betcha'd never guess I broke both my ankles and one I didn't follow dr's orders on and messed it up worse lol. Both never healed right.

no problems with gallstones, Not Diabetic I am checked regularly and I control what sugars I eat, I don't eat any candy cakes cookies pies p uddings or deserts on any regular basis. Course sweets are not the only thing that'll do ya in I know that.

Pictures are often times very deceptive.  For instance ''good genetics'' come into play when you see average 6'0 190lb guy who is actually a couch potato /screen junky and a weak little MF.

And I'm not joking......For me this is the best time of the year to actually witness it first hand. Some friend or relative buys one of these guys a gym membership, and they can't run on the treadmill for five minutes or bench press more than 160lbs. But they're thin and look like they're in good shape. Honestly.... It's hilarious sometimes to watch how people conceptionalize things.

Don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but he was supprisingly close, however the back problems I've stated publically and many times so any one could of known that,  the leg problems come from the leg muscles atrophying cause I don't walk much or do much of anything but sit around, so I guess that's a given too. My face is always red when I go out in the sun or have exerted myself or I am hyper, I've always had that so I don't know if he guessed diabeties from a red face or if there's some other indication.,

Not at all!  That's a sometimes hazard of message boards.  No saracasm intended.
I think it might be fun to see how close T may come from My pics... Of course, like you, I am candid about things here and there on the boards, so he might have  a little advantage.  I'll take My chances...I really want to see what he comes up with!

Only on those details that are either obvious from the picture, or that you already revealed in the post directly above his.

PrizedPosession -> RE: Do you believe you can tell who is able bodied and who is not by looking at a picture? (1/31/2008 2:38:55 AM)

i think that you can't tell just from a picture unless it is evident (hooked up to a machine, cane, etc) but other problems you have no idea. That's the thing with pictures,it's a second in time captured, no story, no explination. Just an image, you can't base someone on it.

venusinblu -> RE: Do you believe you can tell who is able bodied and who is not by looking at a picture? (1/31/2008 2:40:54 AM)

Possibly if they are decended from a long line of Druids ... [;)] .. But I jest, of course one can't tell.  And let us not ignore a persons mental state too - someone could have the body of a God/Goddess and be emotionally immature to the point where they are hazardous to the hearts and minds of others.

It's not all about the physical appearance, is it?

A twenty?  Pfffftt!!  The JREF has one million dollars in escrow, ready to hand over to anyone (including the self anointed 'Terminator') if they can make good on such claims.

Makes you wonder what his disability is if he passes up a chance at an easy million dollars, but goes after a $20...[8|]

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: Do you believe you can tell who is able bodied and who is not by looking at a picture? (1/31/2008 9:42:31 AM)

how could u look at my pic and tell me that i have a heart condition called tetralogy of falot.  the only people who have heard of this condition are dr's or patients with the condition.

you can not tell from my every day life if you were just walking past me either.  the only way you would know is if i told you or you lived with me or were a friend that see's me regularly.  not possible to tell from a picture.

you cant even tell that im intersexed from my pictures since i am 100% female.  it would be different if i were trans.  you can usually tell from a pic that someone is trans.  i always get the surprised reaction when i mention to someone who's seen them or met me in person.
in fact most people havent even heard of that word intersexed before.

what if i had 11 fingers or 11 toes...could you see the extra one in a pic? not likely as the hand or foot would have to clearly be shown in full view of all fingers/toes.  or what if i had a 3rd nipple? yes these extra things are considered disabilities.  just as i saw on the news recently a guy had a 3rd foot growing out of one of his actual legs.
